This is really a stability/bug-fix update. We are not working on new features right now.

Live 8.5 is actually a package that converts Live 8 back to Live 7.

Don't tell Dennis (Denise) I told you... they want it to be a surprise at best, go unnoticed if possible. There is one difference, they removed reverb altogether. It seemed pointless.

Dennis DeSantis wrote: The initial quality post was never meant to suggest that Live was horribly broken, but rather that there had been too many bugs reported which took too long to fix.
From a tech supporter's perspective I might also add that lots of problems are caused by 3rd party software. Not to point the finger on someone else or to defend previous releases of Live 8 - there were indeed a lot of bugs and mostly crash bugs in Live 8 which shouldn't have been there nearly 1 year after the initial release - but from what I can tell, at least 50% of all crash reports that we receive are caused by plugin bugs, which are in most cases not solvable by ourselves. If you still experience crashes with the release candidate or with the final 8.1.3 release, please don't hesitate to contact us. In most cases we can at least see whether a crash was a plugin's fault or our own fault. The latter can be fixed by us, the former can be forwarded to the plugin manufacturer. In any case it's better to report problems instead of waiting for magic solutions. We do understand that there's not always the time to write emails to software companies and we also know that it shouldn't be your job to report bugs, but if you have a moment, send us the stuff. It helps us, you and perhaps even a bunch of other users.

Cheers,
Nico

jeez, nico seriously how come other software is able to deal with those plugs without collapsing every 10 minutes?

even if it is true what you say, HOW THE HELL MANAGE OTHER SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS??????????????????????????????

because live is the only software that suffers from that, all others at least on my machine deal with it without a problem...

to me that is clearly pointing the finger on someone else, really!

probably because with live you can do a lot of things "live", while other hosts do not prioritize playback. at least that would be a reasonable answer. to be honest I have no clue about DAW-programming, but I noticed that no other DAW allows to tweak that many things without stopping playback.
(well, at least until it crashes, errrrr ....)

Dennis DeSantis wrote: You may find this surprising, but the vast majority of our users don't hang out on the forums.

There are artists using Live 8.x in clubs, theaters, etc who have absolutely no problems. Ever. We know this because they tell us and because we go to their gigs.

The experience of some people in this forum - including yourself - may not match this. But this is hardly an indication that we're being dishonest or trying to cram PR nonsense down your throat.

Best,
The reason I am here is to learn about this software, and you are saying because I hang out this forum and ask questions (even stupid ones) that I am less of a consumer.......REALLY.

I am not going to type what I am thinking cause it will justify your come back.

But this comment is up for everyone to see....and you represent Ableton and the way it feels about its consumers. UNREAL

Edit....Tried to let it go. So only pros matter, not the folks who pay for the software. Please have these pros demo ableton live 8.1.3 on video for extended periods of time and this will put this issue to rest. Just want to see if they are pushing the software...or just like some of the boys out in vegas....hardly use it at all and when they do they just toss in a few loops here and there.

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I was in no way suggesting that forum participants were somehow less important than other customers - only that there are fewer of them.

The percentage of Live's total user base that uses this forum is small. That was my only point.

Yeah just get it over with already. Enough with the anal-retentive, relentless pursuit of perfection. Like Tiger Woods says: "just do it"! :P

Axel, first of all, Live is not the only DAW that suffers from plugin problems. Secondly, there are a few significant differences in how a DAW deals with a plugin. To give you a small example: Live allows you to set your own preferred plugin buffer size, whereas a lot of other hosts use fixed buffers. There's a known issue with a certain plugin manufacturer where using specific plugin buffer sizes causes memory violations in Live. As the plugin is overwriting memory that's used by Live, you'll get an instant crash. Never happens in hosts with fixed plugin buffers. This is just 1 example.

However, I don't wanna go on with this discussion here. My point is that you should contact us when you experience crashes because you're usually completely clueless why your software crashes. We can help you to find out more by parsing your crashlogs. In a lot of cases it is as easy as updating the crashing plugin to the latest version. Something you'd probably never think of when running 20 different plugins in a Live set.

Cheers,
Nico
