Aaaah, I didn't realise that.
Todays newly advertised feature is "blocks", I almost can't contain myself.....ZZZZZZ
No innovations quite yet....still, another 3 days to go on their uber exciting countdown calender.

have to agree that I've been waiting for reason 5 since they started the private beta testing a while back and I am not to pleased with the block feature being a major upgrade.
I understand that it will help some folks work flow but for me this is not what I wanted them to improve at all.
There needs to be some earth shaking stuff in the next three days cause they've been working on this for going on 4 years.
We'll just have to see, but I am pretty disappointed so I've going to take the day off and head outside.....

It's funny. I think we've all been hard on the Abes for Live 8's bugs, but look at Propellerheads users. They wait 2 to 3 years for an update and so far get a revamped rex player that you still need Recycle to use, and Blocks which is nothing more than a fancy tab feature.

Ya, look at propellerheads users. In just over 2.5 yrs they have only needed to reach version 4
.01 of the software. And that includes snow leopard compatibility.
Mega epic win.
When they bought Reason 4, they bought a specific feature set. And that's exactly what they got - without the bullshit. Mega epic win.
And btw, Reason 5 still has a ways to go. The is a countdown to MORE beta testing. Mega epic win.

Blocks -- isn't this kind of just session/arrange? I always record "sections" in session view then lay them out in arrange. (Or rather, I promise myself I'm going to, then I wander off and go for a bike ride, or a swim, or I text my girlfriend). Am I missing something?
As far as a Reason "pieces" concept goes, can't you basically do that already using rewire + Live's "external instrument" functionality? You just plug the Reason instruments (or combis) you want directly into Reason's hardware interface and you're good to go. Granted its a bit messy sometimes when you have complex combis, but its workable. Prior to Trillian, I'd been doing a lot of my electric bass lines using Reason Basses via this very approach, which was pretty nifty sounding.

this is true, but I use digital performer with live via rewire, and yes I can rewire live and reason to DP at the same time and its very stable believe it or not, but...
1. you have no ability to "freeze" Reasons channels, you have to record them manually, not that big a deal, but when you have 5-6 channels it takes a few minutes as oppose to a single keystroke.
2.Digital performer has a thing called pre-rendering, you can bounce to disc a final mix including fx, eq's, mastering etc. all direct from midi, no freezing to audio first, its dope for quick reference mixes and sounds perfect, saves a ton of HD space from wasted track freezes and is just an awesome feature that will probably work its way into live and other daw's sooner or later, but it only works with plugins, not rewire devices.
3.I would pay directly for a rewire update that allows plugins under rewire slave mode, but not this cheesy blocks bullshit, Digital Performer has had "Chunks", a much more advanced version of blocks for years.

In defense....I'd still rather have a program that works than one that says it can do things and can't....
Where the share feature.
At least props will deliver on the things they promise unlike ableton.
Why can't we use all the "stable Vst's we want"
I agree so far I am not that impressed with reason 5
But it will work!!!
Maybe that is the trade off....new bells and whistles gets ya bugs and crashes, stability gets you a program that is not on the cutting edge of technology, time will tell
That's why I use both

I think everyone is missing this... If you have Reason, you can buy 'Record for Reason Owners' for $150 US and they give you free upgrades to Reason 5 and Record 1.5 when they are released... That is some radical, gnarly, awesome, totally tubular shit meng!!!
And I'm sure they have something new to add to Reason 5. We still have 3 more days to find out what it may be.

Ableton has a history of advertising functions that are not properly implemented. (on-the-fly looping live 5, .nki compatibility for SAMPLER in live 6...)
And live8 is no different
why, in god's holy name, is this page still active:
http://www.ableton.com/share
it even has a link to buy an upgrade at the bottom of the page.

Patience my peeps. I think they saved the best for last. We are all just having a good time speculating and a little anxious. We all know that abe users will be negative about anything that isn't Live with comparisons and still negative about Live itself. Moreover, these upgrades are for the loyal Prop users albeit they are looking to attract other DAW peeps by incorporating features already being used. If you think of it as just another tool and not a replacement for what you have, you may find it more useful.
