Re: finally... BITWIG STUDIO! beta soon...
Looks pretty nice. Many features requested in Ableton for some time.
My biggest questions would be:
-How's cpu use?
-What's the macro and mapping functionality (Ableton Live is unrivaled when it comes to ease of hardware control thanks to the rack macros and instant mapping)
-Generic tracks are great, so what kind of freezing/rendering can you do? Since midi and audio tracks are the same and you can bounce in place, I wonder if this allows undo later so it acts as a freeze per clip.
There's also a lot of really cool stuff made for Ableton so far like ipad control apps, the akai controllers etc. If Bitwig can take advantage of these hardware ones at least from the get go that would make an easier transition.
Hoping I can beta test.

Re: finally... BITWIG STUDIO! beta soon...
I'm wondering if Ableton's wondered what Bitwig would be like so they've been waiting to move forward a certain way/s , even just to see if it would be relevant competition or not. I think so...
It's uncanny, if there's complete peace between these 2 I'm befuddled.
This puts Live in a pretty tight spot.
Things are bound to get interesting...
God that multi-monitor setup looks delicious /slurp
So glad it has the modular part as it kind of hinted before.

Looks very very interesting to me. Pretty much a Live clone with some user requested features added.
I will try it for sure.
And in the end, competition will be good for the customer. Maybe Ableton will have to reduce upgrade prices

I am definitely curious about the midi mapping and how it relates to controllers. If they offer something like Traktors Mapping, where you can create complex midi mappings complete with LED feedback and modifiers and modes, I would be really happy.
That said, I'd be happy to see it in Live 9.

Now i'm curious as to just how long they'll tease us with the beta test.....

if they are smart they will have a user forum where people who own the software can go like props has. Not like this place where a large amount have pirated software and are talking about crashes, and so much marketing for other products goes onshadx312 wrote:If they're smart they won't have a forum

Its a bit disappointing. Almost like they took feature request list and built a product around that. I am sure its a good product, but is there enough differentiation to really get people to move from Live? Time will tell I guess. I was hoping for something that looked a bit more original.

The modular setup is pretty different. You could argue that it is similar to Max but since they don't have to take another program and fit it in, I would think that it makes for better stability (hopefully)
I say don't knock until we try it
I meean it is designed by the guys who helped make the product that we love so much

Very cautiously excited at the prospect.
Definitely makes me feel like Live has to come out and say SOMETHING about upcoming development - it's been 3 years since a new version now, yes? January 2009 was when 8 first dropped?
The modular setup reminds me a LOT of an even more native Max for Live, but simplified enough for noobs to get at - could be wonderful or could be crap.

Again though, not just developers but FOUNDERS of a company. For example you're talking Jobs and Wozniak of Apple vs a developer employed by Apple.HeadrickProductions wrote: I mean could reason developers leave and make a reason clone!?
I'm not stating this is the case, I'm just saying it may be one possible reason why they think they can legally do this.

the super simple "Side Chain" device looks promising, as well as some other stuff. Personally I really like the look of the UI.
