Hi lyovinolyovino wrote:Wrong! I'm recording it all to the arrangement…
Please, could you give your hardware configuration? Do you use Push?
Re: Recording Push Drums in Arrangement Mode - issue / idea!

Re: Recording Push Drums in Arrangement Mode - issue / idea!
Sorry, I'm not setup for any type of video, but will try to give a simplified example.
Just to be clear: "We are trying to record our Session clips to the Arrange while simultaniously overdubbing."
(This example will also record to the clip in Session as well as the Arrange, but at least it allows you to play thru to the Arrange while recording your clips over.)
Using Live Suite, 9.1.5, and Push.
Example:
- In Session, record a 2 bar drum loop to a Session clip. (Kick and snare)
- Now, In Session view, select the Arrange record button and be sure to have the track you want to overdub to Arrange is record enabled.
- Hit the Record button on Push (Lower left)
- The metronome will count off, now play a cymbal for the 2 bars.
This will accomplish recording your clip to the Arrange while also overdubbing. Hit the Tab key to see this. As I said above, you will also be recording to the clip in Session.
(If you choose to retain the clip without the overdub, just duplicate it before you record it to the Arrange.)
I find this to work well until Ableton gets it fixed in an update. I hope I was clear and have addressed the issue of this thread. If by any chance I did not understand, I'm sorry.. Hope this helps?

We do not want to overdub the clip in session, we only want to overdub to arrangement.lyovino wrote:As I said above, you will also be recording to the clip in Session.

In session : one clip that remains the same whatever happens
In arrangement : the recording of the clip that is played + the overdub notes
The video of the first post only show what's wrong with the PUSH (disabled when you hit arrangement record), not really what is expected?
In fact, we want :
- the drum pad NOT to be disabled when you hit the arrangement record button
- the played notes (overdubed) ones) to be recorded in the arrangement and NOT in the clip of the session.
I agree this would be kind of a new mod, and this mod would be selected when :
- arrangement record button is ON
- PUSH record button (bottom left) is OFF
Thank you for your explanations lyovino. Much appreciate, even if it didn't solved the problem.
Jackson88 we are alone!
I will ask Ableton team if I can patch my own
Re: Recording Push Drums in Arrangement Mode - issue / idea!
As posted, ableton is aware of this broken feature and hopefully working on it as he mentioned? It seems as though you're trying to fix it before they do? What I posted and noted was a workaround, not a fix. Believe me, I too wish it were working as you say it should… At times while I'm in arrangement view I also have trouble with the overdub button not functioning there as well. Go figure.

Re: Recording Push Drums in Arrangement Mode - issue / idea!
why didnt you just say this in the first post.......and post a vid explaining this is what you want to be able to do.......We do not want to overdub the clip in session, we only want to overdub to arrangement.
In session : one clip that remains the same whatever happens
In arrangement : the recording of the clip that is played + the overdub notes
any way.....I still stand by what i said....you just need to duplicate the track...because this isn't something that you would be doing all the time...it's a infrequent practice.
but hopefully ableton will "fix" that "problem" for...you..so you will be happy.....
cheers

Re: Recording Push Drums in Arrangement Mode - issue / idea!
Guys, if you want to overdub in Arrangement, from the arrangement at least this device will let you do it:
Push-ArrangeMode
Its main purpose is to add an Arrangement mode to Push, but one of the consequences also is a straight forward record/ovr mode.
If you want to play on top of a playing Session clip and record this overdub in Arrangement (e.g while the global record is on), then yes this is complicated... And actually isn't a bug, it's how Live's designed (that's what the support@ableton answers). I'm pretty sure it that it wasn't a problem in pre-L9 versions, but I don't even have L8 installed anymore to test...
