WAVEFORM------>
<------WAVEFORMThere aren't that many skyscraper monsters; I think it's in its infancy, in the sense that those kinds of movies tend to be put in the hands of directors who probably have more technical commercial advertisement experience than theatrical so even if they have some sort of talent, it isn't in the realm of characters.
I suppose Peter Jackson did a decent job of having some emotional link between Mandingo and Barbie but it was mostly flop.
The exception would be JJ Abrams, who seems to have great all around experience, but his tv background is fo sho an asset for character experience.
But really, what good directors have been at the helm of a skyscraper monster flick?
It can't be a surprise there's going to be some suckiness going on.
Re: New Godzilla trailer with Heisenberg
I think the 2-3 hour time frame makes it difficult to build a compelling connected human drama and give enough screen time to the skyscraper monsters which is the main reason people go to these type movies. They want to see destruction on a massive scale and if the human drama falls short (which it always does) they’d rather time be spent on the destruction.
I think Pacific Rim did a decent balance and there was a human side to the movie but it didn’t try to force feed us emotion. It got back to the big monster task at hand just when you were about to roll your eyes with the human drama.

Pacific Rim was one of the most insulting films I've ever seen - right up there with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Again, it's shameful how standards have become so low...

You know there's trouble when even the more positive reviews and comments about Godzilla and Pacific Rim end up reading more like apology statements.

Yes. It's very close indeed. Remember, this is the same motherfucker who gave us the absolutely brilliant Pans Labyrinth.shadx312 wrote:Oh please it's hardly as bad as Crystal Skull

What is the connection between Pans Labyrinth and Crystal Skull?
And what movie has come out recently like Pacific Rim that's better?
(If you don't count Avengers, that'd be kind of like Jim Morrison bitch slapping a pretty cool Canadian guy.)
