Nah, they don't make non-matching space suits.eyeknow wrote:Well, it's vintage.......maybe they'll send hipsters to space with it?
And...are horn-rims allowed on board at all?

Well, there are already the original BBC's Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Dr. Who through the decades.TomViolenz wrote:If that would be a TV show, I would definetely watch it
I love the cheesy visuals of the 1980's Beeb, and they must have had some premonition of what was going to be 'hip' in the 2000s.

Love both shows, but I was more thinking along the lines of "The IT Crowd" in space.chrk wrote:Well, there are already the original BBC's Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Dr. Who through the decades.TomViolenz wrote:If that would be a TV show, I would definetely watch it

Looks like I out-pedanted the pedant.
I was into mockery through mimicry before it was cool, though.

Goddamnit. Some variant of the hipster will stroll around town sporting a cassette Walkman instead of an iPod/cell phone. Similarly it looks like NASA has returned to the 60’s for their spacecraft design inspiration.
You could claim that’s just utilitarian, but look at the private space travel companies that have sprouted up over the last decade or so (and I’m too lazy to Google) and their designs look like they are from the future.

I wouldn't be surprised if private companies have 2-3 times budget to NASA though, and they probably don't have to resort to parts stashed in the garage and a dinosaur R&D dept....
Re: Hipsters have infiltrated NASA
I’m sure that’s a valid point but if you want the general public to get excited about space exploration again then you don’t go back to launching muffin tops into space.

Re: Hipsters have infiltrated NASA
The only thing people will get excited about space wise now is if they can find out if that other planet has life on it.
THEN Nasa has to find a way to communicate or get there.
That's a muffin top? I thought it was a mutant 3-sided chiclet.

Re: Hipsters have infiltrated NASA
wow this got stupid. i'm over hipster bashing, maybe because i could be considered one, but, to me, it reeks of old people complaining about the styles of the generation(s) below them. i would be impressed if anyone here didn't follow some sort of style/trend when they were in their teens/20s/beyond.
i think part of the reason hipsters get so much shit is because it is a 'style' that isn't immediately associated with any specific set of ideals or beliefs other than simple irony. goths wore black to identify with darkness. hippies wore dreads to identify with the natural world and bob marley. emo kids had long bangs with short hair on the side to identify themselves as rockers but not butt-rockers. punks wore mohawks to identify with fuck you. now, i might be oversimplifying or just flat out wrong about some of these, but you could justify the way you dressed by your ideals.
i will hopefully never look at this thread again, although I do like the one photo of the hipster evolution.
