If I could find a Centrino with a 6-pin Firewire port I'd get one...

This Sony looks fantastic and performs as fast as a fast desktop PC. It seems that the Sony fan is so quiet, I can only hear it jump in when I put my ears one inch above the keys. I love this one... it's so sexy!
so, you traded in your Acer for a Sony? or do you have 2 centrinos now? :D

i also love the lack of noise from my laptop. great design from intel and it's faster than my athlon desktop machine. amazing.

You could get a PCMCIA card with a 6 pin firewire port if that's absolutely necessary for you. :D Centrinos rock!

A six-pin Firewire connection through a PCMCIA port will not carry power.

and according to you pcmcia is only 20 mbits per second, so you want nothing to do with it. This is such a false and misleading statement you made on another thread and never corrected. And not only that, you said i needed to "do some research, please!". Give me a break, i did my research, and pcmcia is actually over 100 megaBYTES per second, and therfore faster than firewire, usb 2.0 or anything else for laptop.

Woah, easy now. :D

Alex is right on this one, though. I guess that's one compelling reason to stay on a Powerbook.

yes, I traded in the Acer since the fan seemed to be entering the stage when the harddrive started working hard. this Sony is just easy going ;-)

You won't get 100MBPS from PCMCIA. The newer archtecture version CardBus and you're getting there not ISA controller based PCMCIA though.

However, it will indeed outstrip Firewire not to mention USB's packet system nonsense in the context of streaming live audio. Oh, and as for not supplying power from the power port on a lappie, there go your batteries.

I haven't optimized this bad boy yet so maybe I can squeeze out a bit more performance out of it once I turn some processes off. Also will test it with a 7200 external drive later this week.

I sold my 3 yr. old TiBook G4 and bought the SOny 'cause I was having so many MAC/Live problems....The Sony runs flawlessly and is HUGELY more powerful than the MAC running Live. So long MAC!

I say us Mac users start a campaign to call Windows by the name WINDOWS everytime we mention it.

Who is with me?
