many of our members on this forum are Ozzies and Brits, where the word isn't as taboo. and if you want to talk about how offensive the word is in "the english language", then you might want to talk to people from ENGLAND. i guarantee you they aren't even a fraction as offended as you are.
I remember going to a footie game in Melbourne 2 years ago, and hearing a little 9 year old girl call the officials "fucking cunts with shit in their eyes", and then an old woman 2 rows back said "fair dinkum".
only in the western hemisphere (specifically the United States) is this word so forbidden.
remember, its just a word.
Hey Adam,
Actually in OZ the word CUNT is not as commonplace as you think.
Words like dickhead, tosser, retard, fucker, arse, prick, turdburgler (ok not this one), have less taboo associated with them. But Cunt is the icing on the cake when it comes to rude words.
I could have a lunch with CEO of most companies and use any of the words I mentioned above except for (turdburgler) and CUNT. It is still considered a word you don't say around women too.
P.S. A good friend of mine was working for some sports club owner who went on 60 minutes and publically called our old prime minister (paul keating) a cunt on live to air tv!

Mosca said it IS an old norse word.
He didn't say it originated from that. And neither did I.

yes. And I'm saying this is NOT an old norse word. Kunta is an old norse word.
I thought the definition from the dictionnary was pretty clear.

Un-flamin-believeable old chap ! I can't decide what's funnier, what the girl said or what the old lady said...
DJR has a point, you don't get away with saying that stuff easily, even in Scotland, the spiritual home of the shockingly outrageous but affectionate insult. But I think using that word (which I don't like much myself in it's offensive form) is like watching Jerry Springer The Opera - if you're offended, tune out.

Oh Myyy Gohd Adam that's the best thing I've heard in a long time. Makes me want to go out the front of the house and stick a big old flagpole with the Union Jack and Southern Cross on it and salute the the Australian dream. Right now I'm drinking Tooheys new in shorts in the middle of winter and seriously wondering why it took this long to come back down under.
Fucking Cunts with shit on their eyes from a 9 year old girl. Excellent.
Yas can all garn get fucked.

hey DJRetard
did you read even read the Julian Cope quote? obviously not by the sounds of it. Have you read any of the posts explaining the origin of the word? nope? can you actually read or did you show it to your girlfriend so she could read it out to you.
get a grip mate, most of the people i know use the word, i use the word, female friends of mine use the word (and they've got like degrees and good jobs and stuff so they are obviously not trashy like)
I didn't invent the word cunt
you really piss me off with your attitude, so in future - don't reply to my posts eh? and if i'm on fire - let me burn save your po faced piss for someone else.
mo

Speaking as a British Australian with a Glaswegian mother who I stood with on the doorstep at age 14 to tell her where I was going to be for the night only to have her tell me "shut the fuckin door ahm fuckin freezin" before I could get a word in.
swearing to me is just part of the vocabulary.
Deeds not words make a man.

I think it's pretty disarming actually, it's like a kind of cleansing by repetition.

i think this is the only forum around where somebody can start a thread like this and it disolves into gentle debate on the origins of some of the naughty words used.
I just think it's a shame that no-one's thrown in the popular phrase 'fudge packer' , just for good measure.
oops.

Being an Aussie myself, I can say that the word CUNT is taboo (sort of). It is probably the strongest single word insult. But of course it all depends on the context and tone of voice it is said in.
If it is said in a jovial, friendly way, then it can mean a term of endearment. So if you haven't seen someone for a while you could say:
" How are you going you old cunt?"
To express sympathy. For instance a friend's dog got run over:
"Oh, what a cunt of a thing to happen."
To express disaproval of something. For example you hit your little sister:
"That was a cunt of a thing to do"
Possibly CUNT may serve as an acronym. Here are a few:
Can't Understand Normal Thinking, Concentration Understanding Nous and Tenacity,
Coventry University Netball Team, Completely Unbearable Neo Trash,
Columbian Union for New Teachers, etc......
There are far more effective ways to abuse someone. I like this one from either Rob Grant or
Doug Naylor in one of the Red Dwarf books. It went something along the lines of:
"You pompous, piggish polyp on a putrid piece of distended rectum."

Quite, forge. However if one of your deeds is offending people with the words you use....
As I say, If it ain't your scene tune out. I'm sure lots of people already have tuned out of this thread for that very reason. That's OK.
When I was a wee boy, my granny used to hear me running up the close to get to her door, and she'd wait until I'd got right outside the door and then whip it open and scream "WHO THE FUCK SENT FOR YOU!!!!!????"
Good old granny Kate...
