$1249 (shipped) can get you this:
Dual Core Athlon 64
4600
2GB DDR400 Dual Channel Corsair
160GB SATA HD
Asus A8-N Mobo
NEC 16x DVDRW (Dual Layer burning @ 8x)
a case with 430W PSU
and an Asus Geforce 6200 TC PCI-Express Vid Card
I'd buy the components tomorrow if i could run OSX Tiger on it, fully compatible of course. Live wouldn't even use that 2nd core, but i'm sure i'd find a use for it

DONT DO IT

OS X on x86 platform will show X's shortfalls.
If Apple doesn't start supporting every hardware device out there like MS does, then they simply can't reach critical mass. The world is not rich enough to all buy Apple.
Why else did Rolls Royce, MG Rover, Bently and a whole spade of other luxury car manufacturers go into administration?
Mac Vs Pc's is like "Rolls Royce vs. Hummer V2" with SGI being the Ferarri.

Car - computer comparisons are so flawed I don't know where to start.
Nice to see SGI mentioned though.
