yes, MASSIVE sounds freaking amazing, but damn its the most CPU intensive plugin I've ever used! Seriously, some of those patches will send my CPU to 80% with one note!

For me: Fabfilter Twin,very nice GUI(which for me is very important for a vst-instrument), good sounding filters and a reasonable price.
300 Euro for massive or Fm8 ? Hell, that´s too much for a plugin.

Yup, love it, great for most styles of house. Rob Papen's synths are propbably my favourites right now, although I still use the old ones, imposcar, etc.

For dialing in sounds, check out Zebra2. I was never much of a synth tweaker either other then the standard pitch and filter mods, but Zebra2 makes it EASY to come up with your own unique sounds from scratch quickly and easily.

I didn't get through this whole thread, but I just wanted to say that for people out there who are only "moderately synthy" - IOW don't really use them extensively but just like to fart around with them (like me) -
The 'free' ZebraCM from CM Mag has got to be the ultimate hands-down best synth around! I was blown away when I first used it, seriously. And the AlphaCM is also included on the disc, which is excellent as well (and better than the regular free version because it has a ring modulator).
For the non-hardcore user, I feel it is silly to spend more than the price of that magazine, when you're getting not just one but
two excellent and fully pro sounding synths with mucho feaatures and presets - not to mention all the other cool stuff on those dvd's...

My current favourite is Vaz Modular.
It is really quite something. Modelled on a real analogue modular it actually ends up as a wonderful cross between Reason and Reaktor.
I wish I had discovered it earlier.
BTW: The Vaz website does however leave a lot to be desired. But don't let that put you off.

Vaz is AWESOME!!! used it a few years back.....It's probably a lot better now...
