thanks - I didnt really get a chance to preview it properly - and itunes preview is so shit anyway that it will play you 30 seconds of an intro with nothing happening - beatport has far better previewing

but as you just sent this reply I went over and clicked buy - so you'd better be right!!

but I'm so impressed thus far with the last semi blind purchase based on this thread - listening to sea change again now and WOW - thanks mr Spikee for that one

BTW - have you got medulla? is that as good as vespertine?

The only thing that "dates" Protection for me is how unmaximised it is. If you rip it to your hard drive and look at the waveform, sure it's not as loud as CDs today, but DAMN does it sound warm, open, fat etc.

Freq Nasty said something about that album, that it is a very "street" album in style, but it has had a "big room" i.e. in-a-flash-studio mix.

well, yeah definitely - but I wasnt even meaning in that sense - I just couldnt believe it was 12 years ago that it was out - the scary thing about life is every year older you are the smaller a percentage of your life a year is so it speeds up

Pixies - all their albums (probably some of the best melodic songwriting ever)
Massive attack - Mezzanine

these two bands are among my favortites. they make great albums, ie coherent and packed with equally good songs, which is not often the case...
