So I've tried phatmatik pro with different samples and loops but I didn't enjoy it. I wasn't impressed with the effects. I even found that the more effects I applied to the sample the thinner the sound became. Sampler comes out a winner here. One less on the list. Does anybody know ONE from AMG? I'm trying the demo but it doesn't load the sounds because my copy isn't registered which is normal as it is supposed to be a demo.

Generally, I love Sampler for what it is. I just think this thing has got a lot of potential in areas which aren't exactly comfortable in it as of now. Someone said he would never use Sampler for drum work, but I can't stop feeling there would be so much possibilities in using it with percussive sounds - if the available mapping options were a tad more flexible, and if there were multiple outputs (tadah!).

More on these thoughts in the thread I posted in the Feature Requests forum: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53033

for me, I enjoy it. One problem though;

No GLIDE, like in Operator or Simpler. I had some Simpler patches I converted to Sampler, for monosynth bass sounds. Well, the Simpler ones had a glide control, and now it's gone in Sampler.

Not friggin cool, Abes. We were promised compatibility between Sampler and Simpler patches, not PARTIAL compatibility.

Y'all get the Frowny face for that one. :x Otherwise, it's an enjoyable instrument, but without 100% compatibility with my massive library of Simpler patches, it's absolutely NOT worth the money I spent.

Yeah, yeah... RTFM. I got it. :oops:

OK, I love sampler, and it's totally worth the money now!!! Personally, I would have put that control in global section, but what the heck do I know... Plus, if you look at the index of the .pdf manual, check out "glide" - it shows for Simpler and Operator, but not Sampler. Wierd.

Thanks Hoffman!

It works based on the root notes of the individual samples. That's what's so funny about it in regards to mapping oneshots quickly: you don't exactly save time when mapping several shots to single keys in this manner, because you still have to specify the root notes before using this feature. Otherwise it's very nice, of course.

So, before selecting multiple samples and hitting the distribute action, define the root notes. After that, as you select all of the samples you want to map and use the distribution feature, it will map the samples in such a manner that the key representing the root note and any free space around it (before hitting the area of another sample with an adjacent root note) makes up the key range of a single sample. So if the result is every sample mapped to every key, that just means that every one of the samples you have loaded currently have the same root. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

As I posted above, I rant a bit more about this here: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53033 :)

I didn't buy Sampler cause I have Kontakt. Thing is I don't much like Kontakt except used standalone. It is still clunky because it is not actually a sampler. It does not sample!

What I liked best about Sampler was being able to just drag a clip right into it. I wanted to like it and replace Kontakt, but it just does not have enough yet. I expect I will purchase it if Ableton adds a round of features that should have been there in the first place (all listed in this thread)
