No, suppose you had very sensitive hearing, can't hear soft noises, can't stand loud noises. You're standing next to a 20,000,000W speaker with a volume knob in your hand. When it gets loud you turn it down, when it gets quiet you turn it up. That's compression.

The only mention of frequency is when they talk about a 'De Esser' which is made to compress out specific frequencies.

NO ONE EVER SAID COMPRESSORS DO CHANGE FREQUENCY.
BUT !INTERNALLY! FREQUENCIES ARE USED FOR ANALYSIS WHICH IS NESCESSARY TO CONFIGURE THE INTERNAL PARAMETERS FOR THE PROCESSES THAT BELONG TO THE TRICK CALLED "COMPRESSION".

ahhhhhhhh a sidechain compressor. (which everyone erroneously thinks we don't have in live's built in comp. what they mean to say we don't have is an external key input for our comp.)
