If you could only have one of these, which would it be? :D

Paul.
For me, definitely the ER-1.

HARD:

SH-101
Roland V-Synth
DSI MonoEvolver Keyboard + Desktop unit
Juno 106
Akai S6000
Novation BassStation used as a MIDI -CV convertor for the 101

SOFT:

Korg Legacy Analog Edition - still haven't found a VST that matches the MS-20
FabFilter Twin, One
MicroTonic
ABL BassLine
Automat
Simpler (EIC), Impulse
GURU
Waiting for: Minimonsta to go UB

OPINIONS:

I don't think I'll ever go completely soft - hardware is just too much fun, and for me, much more inspirational. However, with good AD convertors, piped out to a high quality mixer, I think lots of softs can hang with the hard ones in terms of sound quality. That being said, I usually create a sound on my hard synths, and if possible, recreate them on the softs. The evolver is absolutely amazing. I bought the Mono evolver to hook up to my desktop unit and totally rediscovered the synth. Right now I'm trying to figure out racks and see if I can re-create the DSI evolver in Live. Thinking about using 4 Covert Seqs, but don't know how to handle the delay feedback routing, the assignable EG's, or the LFO's. If anybody want's to help me out on the project, PM me.

Peace.

i only really use 2:

nord mod g2 engine
dsi evolver

i've decided that i'm getting rid of:

tx81z
vz10m

and leaving around, to bend:

boss dr202
tr 505

the experience of having the g2 has taught me that having a go-to synth that you can get lots of different use out of, though it be pricey, is a good idea (if cost is an issue). makes me lust for much less stuff.

of course eventually, i'm gonna start on that huge analog modular, patched into a kyma.
P4 3.4G 2MB, RME 9652, nord g2, g4+digi 001, axiom 49, peavey 1600X, evolver, gigastudio

I run my Moog Opus into a digital 8-track, which I use as a mixer/effects top up, then run an optical line into my MacBook Pro 17. (Couldn't believe the difference in the quality of signal between analogue and optical!)
I always add in shit loads of repetitive guitar lines (also added through the 8-track) which end up sounding like synths due to the way I process them using a mixture of effects from the 8 track and the onboard Ableton effects. (OK- I realise you didn't ask for that info but I thought I'd chuck it in anyway.)
Other than that I rely quite heavily on Simpler and Impulse for the bones of my tracks. Hopefully getting Operator and a midi controller next month.
Nothing fancy here. Quite a simplistic set up.

Synths:

DSI Evolver
Novation Drum Station
Novation Nova
Roland MC-505
Roland JP-8000
Roland Juno-106
Yamaha A4000

Although I've played with various VST programs that are amazing, I personally find that hardware is more fun. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but chances are if I did buy any of the VST instruments on the market today, I wouldn't be able to use them 10-15 years from now without worrying about compatibility issues. Reselling hardware is also much easier and in most cases doesn't depreciate in value to the same degree as software. Those are just my opinions though. :)

ARP Odyssey Mk.1 - Dirrrty. Not very well but still great for effects and loops.

Moog Source - Waaaay underrated.

Prophet 5 - love/hate

Moog Voyager Anniversary - Definitely not as warm as The Source but still creamy.
Trackpad is a revelation to use.

Doepfer modular - Cold

Nord Micromodular - Great for processing vocals

Looking for a System 100.

It ahs been said once or more before: hardware is a source of sound, more then it is a reliable performance instrument.

so, the list:

DSI evolver (the best synth for me ever)
CS-5 Yamaha (heritage)
ER-1 and EA-1 Korg
Alesis Micron

selling: novation supernova

lusting for: radias or v-synth, still deciding. Live is my recorder but for creativity and FUN, nothing beats hardware imo.

I have an old DX7, a Roland D110, a Korg X3R and a novation Base Station. But I can't remember the last time I used any of them.

So i've decided to sell them - any offers?
