Damn, if I wasn't gearing up to get Logic eventually (hence in the market for a Macbook), I would seriously think about this for sheer portability. It's basically a smaller macbook, without 6pin firewire but 3 USB.

The Vaio was too good a deal, I missed it and didnt find anything worth buying today. I heard the gossips that Asus builds Sony and Apple but didnt like the model I saw, poor, look like Dell not Vaio or Mac, I may have to go to the shop linked here and see what the better models are like, they are Asus official dealer but for 200 more can get real thing with better processor

Well, about the build quality of chassis they easily bend and emit crackling sounds in the 1000 Euro range, they become better in the 1600 Euro range. I'm not talking about design, the sense of style is not universal, (because it's universal binary sorry for the pun...but it appeared in an uncontrolled region of my brain...)
As you said when the difference is not that much, one might chose Apple, especially nowadays where most PC Laptop comes in the range of 1000/1300 Euros (and at the same price you might get a MacBook white - 1319 Euros) is very competitive, because the move to intel caused everyone suddenly to compare things. When Apple was PPC the price war and perception was bigger because nobody knew really how to compare the two worlds. Now it's under everybody's eyes to see. As long as you go near the same specs (with some reasonable variation though) you find almost comparable prices.
If you never had Apple before (like me) you won't regret ( I mean about the OS - hardware might fail even on Apple) if you already had Apple, well you know it all.
