That is awesome!
By high school I was playing in an experimental rock band called "Genetic Disorder".

On behalf of every other guy who got laid in high school, thanks to the two of you for making the rest of us look good. 8)

Think back to a few years before you met your wife...perhaps it was during your "expermental days"...and you decided to go out to the Castro on Halloween just for kicks, and suddenly you saw this super hot chick, and you were drunk and she was crazy drunk and you ended up in a dark alley somewhere, gettin' busy.

It was a dude.

And he's coming out with a new glitch plugin. My guess is that the people he's got working for him decided to write a plug to do all the OCD manual glitch work he has them doing for him.

 So true... I am sure of it!

Agreed about SF, great city, but Seattle chicks = sturdy? plenty of good looking girls here. Maybe you meant stupid? I could go with that.

"Some of us feel that it's more like BT is serving a watered down version of music that was at one point in time *all* underground. And the sad thing is that the more electronic music hits the mainstream, the more it gets watered down, and the more people get skewed ideas of what it's really about. Unfortunately the old argument that a rising tide lifts all boats has not turned out to be true. In other words, the generic watered down electronic music that has pushed upon the masses by club DJ culture hasn't opened a crack for more interesting electronic music to seep up into the mainstream, rather it has turned off a lot of folks who might be into more authentic electronic music if it wasn't associated with a very click oriented scene that's based on a bunch of meaningless genres, and about dance music being separated more and more from listening music. And about any sort of "downtempo" (whatever the fuck that even means) or not exclusively dance floor stuff having to follow the rules of club style production. For instance, BT's super smooth, super unconfrontational, and ultimately to me, super uninteresting music.

It's not even that i think bt's music is even that bad, it's really not, it's just that it's part of a bigger problem i see with electronic music in general.

it's a real drag. "

Never thought I'd posting in a BT thread, but what are you on about here? I got a free ticket to check him out live on his first live Binary Universe date and I'd say the guy farts more complex music than the average around here. He played multiple instruments (bells, guitars, drum machines, string instruments), sang acoustic (not vocoded and it was decent). The music ranged from glitchier stuff to rock, even the fixed gear bike riding, , tight black tapered jean jaded hipster bartender chick was VERY into it.
I'm into the most machine drum obscure shit, ghetto tech house yada yada out there but give respect where it's due.
I wasn't even a fan before but after hearing his new stuff live and shooting the shit with him after I'd say he's a REAL genuine guy.

Also, I spoke with a friend today that interned at his studio a while back and he has nothing but positive things to say, and he's moving to Berkeley so theres more reason for you to hate on the bay area

I only liked one song on emotional technology, but the rest he's done is amazing. Especially the breakbeat tracks on Movement In Still Life UK edition! 8O Everytime I watch an interview with the guy, I regain faith in electronic music and creativity. Sure, he's not an inventor, and certainly not the inventor of trance. But he's a creative genius, whether you like his tunes or not.

The only thing I don't like about BT is his fans at his forum. Damn what a bunch of weirdos..seeing god and the unified truth etc. while listening to his stuff is slightly too obscure imo, but each to his own ;P

first of all, i don't want anyone to think i'm hating on the bay. That's my next planned destination asd a matter of fact.

aaaanyway:

I'm sure BT is a very nice guy, and i don't question his talents.

Shit, i don't question the talents of the folks who make FM radio rock music.

but what i do think is that even the fact that you list "ghetto tech house" as a genre that is supposed to somehow earn you more credit proves my point about dj culture railroading the overall perception of electronic music into this world of meaningless genres and seperation between listening music and dance music....

Just a quick clarification: my post was intended to say Tone Deft = gay. You're totally right about SF. It's not nearly as gay as Tone Deft is. *smooches*

I just listened to a portion of TBU again recently, and I think I've found why I am fond of BT's music. His ideas (motives) are good, but maybe no more creative than yours or mine. The same can be said of his arrangements, with this caveat, on TBU he uses a lot of classical form, which in my opinion was a bold move in the right direction. I personally dispise "verse/ chorus" form. Anyway, the real difference is his orchestration. The way he mixes found sounds with acoustical and synthesised sound is extrordinary. No, he not the first or the only one doing it, but he is masterful in his orchestration. I hear his music the way I here Debussy or Respighi. He uses a huge pallette and has great control of his brushes. That, I feel, is BT's greatest contribution, besides being a big promoter of electronic music.

Yeah, agreed, but track 3 of TBU is sooooooo designed as a lead-in to a PBS News show. Ugh...

The rest of it is pretty good.
