is it really worth spending more for mac?

I havent even read the thread.
all Im going to say is
NO NO NO its not worth it. I switched to mac when Logic dropped windows. IAnd I still have a bitter aftertaste.
Macs are one of the biggest cons in computing ever. Oh and wait till your warranty runs out. Even the slightest thing goes wrong you wont be able to fix it. (they are not like pC's)
recently i had to get a new power supply for my Dual processor G4. (my warranty had ran out by less than a week)
Cost
€160 (power supply)
€185 (labour cost) from a mac service station.
total cost €345
For a pc it woul dhave cost me about €40
Good Luck with your mac

I see youve been at the Cool Aid!jamief wrote:In a world obsessed with spending and efficiancy- i,m sure we all recognise the need for a wider insightfull philisophy in bussiness and the world at large . Especially after the War in Iraq.
I feel Apple embody this and i am willing to support them by putting my money where my mouth is and paying that bit more. I need them and they need me - team
I hope this somehow rubs off on my art.
macs are X wings and g5 servers are Millenium falcons
Where as microsoft is the deathstar and harbinger of ultra sophisticated pyschops and modern day technological warfare !

M"macs are the X wing etc etc etc"

The funny thing is in your first post you said "I wanted to break away from big brother"

Mac=A bit smaller of a brother
Its all the same dude, theres nothing romantic about Macs or PC's

Mr Anonymous,
Just remember, if you keep repeating something, it will sound true if you say it long and loudly enough: "PCs are cheaper, PCs are cheaper." Even if you get someone giving you examples otherwise, just ignore them and keep shrieking your mantra. Facts should not be forced to fit into your fantasy land.
Enjoy running 8000 loops simultaneously. That's a true measure of creativity these days anyway.
Oh, I finished my fourth CD last week and I'm on the artwork now. On my Mac. But how can that be? Apparently, people with Macs are incapable of doing anything with them. Something's not right here...

Hi Alex, that's quite a lot of output man. I'd love to hear some of your music, is there anywhere I can download some for a listen? I was intrigued at one of your earlier posts when you mentioned the technique of rendering improvisations from fedback sends. I love using alternative ways of generating audio myself, things like granular synthesis, converting visual files into audio and using certain numbers (particularly the infinate ones like Pi & Phi) to generate frequencies. 33.333etc hz is supposedly the resonant frequency of the clitoris (apparently) a 33.333bpm loop can be cut into a circular groove on vinyl (to create a "locked groove" that plays endlessly. Stuff like that. I could go on about it for hours.

Feedback stuff is fun. On this last disc I do a lot of interactions between patterns with prime-numbered aspects, Fibonacci-divided MIDI notes.
I never knew the clitoris had a resonance frequency. I guess that's another way to make it hum. You learn something new about women every day...
Just make sure you when you go down that you don't go too low:

That would ruin a good date...

That's a very interesting link Alex. I'd heared that the chinese used to execute people by tying them to a post inside a large bell, then when repeatedly struck, the poor sod inside would slowly have all the cells in his/her body turned to jelly by the sound.
I had this idea to build an elaborate vibrator connected to an ocilloscope, but after reading that link I now think it might be a bad idea. Unless anyone finds girl poo a turn on, in which case it may be marketable. I guess you could roll off everything below 30 hz just to be on the safe side

well well......I have both , mac and pc . I have a powerbook and a pc desktop . I have to say that the war between which plataform is better is absurd . I noticed that with mac osx I feel more confident when it comes to making music , its just a matter of taste ...like the same way you choose a sequencer and instruments .
this stupid issue of mac vs pc is nonsense , I dont really care what you use to make music as long as you do something . when you hear a good track you dont think what computer it was made on , neither you care what sequencer was used . when it comes to creativity the computer doesnt matter , its just an ilusion for the ones without talent that seek for something external to make them better ......NO COMPUTER MAC OR PC CAN MAKE MUSIC BY THEMSELVES!!!!. stop the bulshit and start making good music!!! .

PCs are not always cheaper or faster, especially once you price the same hardware and software. I know a lot of Linux users at work who would disagree with you about XP, too.freind2 wrote:PC-

i got a mac i like it, i hate how apple does business though, it seems that they want to get as much money as they can and give you little. i would consider switching to a pc, but i got about 3 grand invested in emagic stuff. then again im sure i wont like how the pc users do business either, the only difference is you got more ego-inflated corporations to choose from. that dont change the fact though that given the opportunity, i would take great pleasure in kicking steve jobs ass. bottom line here, a computer is a damn computer, get whatever the hell you want, as long as it does the job. its not a fucking idol nor an object of affection. technology is cool but the big brother corporations (they all are, only the names and logos change) make it a burden at times. now can we please have a forum where people talk about more important things rather than people sounding like a bunch of bitches over a issue that not only is passe but isnt even an issue? as for the original poster, asking those questions in forums really wont help you get the info you want because people just want to diss the computer they dont own. just research a little, find out what programs work best on what, and get an idea of what you want to spend and get whatever makes the most sense to you that will give you what you need. these forums are overly biased to get the info that you need. i to have my own biases but am refraining from them because what works for me doesnt always work for others. by the computer that makes you happy and that you enjoy and feel comfortable working on. but know that all the companies all have the same mindset and you really cant trust any of them.
peace out

God help us all if thats what you think music is all about. I have a XXX Head Pump I could lend you. Its called the 'Robot Intelligence Booster'. I think it would definitely help you. Oh and it uses the Fibonacci Midi code. So youll feel right at home with your brand new and much larger big thinky brain.
