But your post brought another idea to my mind. As far as I remember, warping a clip with just two markers (one at the start, one at the very end), with no tempo change, looping disabled, etc hardly uses any CPU, because Live basically plays the sample as it is. I shall give this a try tomorrow.

I've never used follow actions before, but I found a need for it today. Except you can't set a clip to "play next when clip ends".

this would be an amazing feature! especially when combined with another yet to be realized feature :full control over loop end and start. glitchy follow actions that could go back to normal at the turn of two knobs!

also will be cool if you can select randomized for example you pres follow action randomized then you select few clips.
so you have 3 clips.
1 = play 3 times then 4 step will be any from selection list than back to 1 clip

Making some soundtracks (music + fx) with ableton or installation / performance with ableton + max / msp (realtime sounds with physical interraction)
Quantification is a nonsense in a lot of case

A recent article on Cycling74's web site talks about Max for Live's interaction with the Live API. The article says it's possible to design new follow actions, among other new functionality. To me, this means there's not much point in asking for improvements such as this one, because either Ableton or Live users savvy in Max/MSP will probably design these features in M4L when it comes out.

There is the cost to consider, also learning curves, time, etc...
I think it is quite reasonable to assume that Live will continue to be developed along the guidelines requested by users long past Max4Live.

Of course Live will be developed in line with user requests - but only those requests that will be essential workflow enhancements, criticial features or anything else that will keep Live in the competition. Requests like these will be realized with M4L. As far as I know, people have been asking for a step sequencer for ages - it's not on its way with M4L. I don't think Ableton to will put any effort into designing another step sequencer for those without M4L.

i agree, this seems like a simple and worthwhile addition to the follow action options.
also related to follow actions, i posted another feature request here:
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=119840
in it i ask for the ability to set scenes to be skipped when "auto select next scene is being used" - i would find this feature useful because it would be wonderful to jump from one follow action scenario to another (where "follow action scenario" means a cluster of adjacent clips all designed to be part of a single triggered scene's identity. does that make sense? if you like this idea please visit the thread and bump it for me. thanks!
