Don't get blinded by the power of a gui.
Most vst eq's do sound the same, only the gui is different.

Smart marketing.

I find myself slipping into using a lot of ableton effects though while I'm working in Live, just because they're nicely laid out, easy on cpu etc., and I generally just prefer the interfaces,

I use EQ3 extensively to cute or boost bass. Mostly cos it's easy to set up like that. That's worth a lot of money IMO!

The trouble with EQ3 is its supposed to be a useful DJ mixer type EQ/filter, but it isnt quite either - as sweepable filter it just doesnt have the sweep range, as an EQ just dont like its character - much prefer to make my own DJ EQs in a rack with the EQ8 which when you combined and sweep bands over each other with moderate to high end can yield quite a characterful and yet very controlled (ie not too peaky) sweep.

As for the new compressor with sidechain... Ill probably never get around to giving it a chance - I use a fabfilter pro-c which I quite like the sound of and it has a lovely GUI on it, or I use my dbx 1066 hardware compresor. As for sidechaining - well it just isnt the way I have ever done it - either in hardware or software - Ive allways done it by making a submix on a send bus and sending that to the key - even when using hardware mixers.

So to me there really isnt any difference in the usefulness of it - I have no doubt its a very flexible compressor even if its optio mode didnt exactly scream opto-coupled compressor at me..

I would rate them good.

However there is room for improvement.

Would it have been so difficult to add the compressor section to the rest of the effects as they did with the gate and the auto filter?

How about an reverse reverb effect?I know it would probably be cpu hungry but it would be very useful.

A more detailed eq section in the ping pong would be nice too.Maybe include filter/res options.

Thats just what i can think of off the top of my head.Im sure there's more.

You mean gated reverb (a la Logic EnVerb), or a time machine?

no i mean somthing where the reverb comes in before the hit itself.typical use would be the reverb starting quietly, getting louder building up to a drum hit, typically a crash.

ie, a time machine. Because how else would the reverb know what's coming next?

thats why i said it would be cpu intensive.use your imagination!!!!!

there's no way to do this without delaying the hit by the length of the reversed tail that you want. No way at all. Your mobile can't do it, your desktop can't do it, a Cray-1 couldn't do it, the TOP 500 put together couldn't do it. Seriously. Use your brain..

the effect could automatically flatten/bounce down the hit to audio!there i used my brain like you asked!

by the way i do hope ye know that the effect can be achieved as follows:

1)Drop crash hit onto track
2)Reverse it
3)Add reverb
4)Freeze/flatten track
5)Reverse it again

What i meant was an effect that when dropped onto the hit would do all this automatically.

Discussion over!

Again, there's quite obviously no way to do this in real time. All Live's effects work in real time - that's why Beat Repeat can't pitch up, for instance!

Do you want offline effects added to Live? (ie. right click clip, select "Add Reverse Reverb" from contextual menu) Or do you want some sort of scripting to do this sort of thing automagically? Both are things I do and don't agree with (they'd be cool, but involve quite fundamental changes to the way the programme works).

my point is before you start trying to belittle peoples ideas try to understand what im saying.no need for all the comments regarding super computers.do you even like music?any creative(non technical) thoughts in your head?

loads of Reverb units have reverse reverb - obviously it doesnt work on the first one - it's still a cool effect though

i cant see there ever being an offline version in Live though, but I wouldnt say no to the other one
