winehouse is a cynical product - lol at this fake-soul bullshit that gets spewed out of the uk every few years for guardian readers to jizz themselves over - remember joss stone? yeah i didnt think so
lol - you're comparing Joss Stone to Amy Winehouse? That's like comapring Kayne West to Prince.
Prince rates Amy Winehouse enough to offer to produce her next album. Kayne wishes he was Prince.
Go back and listen to your pop hop CD collection.
i'm not comparing anything except you and your fellow chin-stroking 'abletonians' to a bunch of pretentious bald oblong-specced wankers
when joss stone 'burst onto the scene' (ie her manager since age 6 decided it was time to recoup) clueless twats like yourself were frothing about her 'amaaaaazing soul sound maaaaaaaaan'. stone completely loses plot and observer-crowd hurriedly move on to next 'real thing' - oh yes this one is good! proper working class trash with tats and nina simone fetish! SCOREBAG!!
prince WISHES he was kanye right now, princes star has lond since faded and kanye dominates with authority
as for pop hop, please, i've forgotten more hip hop classics than you will ever know

of course you were saying that when her first album came out i take it, you know - the bossa jazz effort that sold fuck all, the one that made her record company think 'fuck what have we done, better get Mark 'famous for covering other peoples songs' Ronson in to do a motown number on her.
were you?
And what has that got to do with anything? Plus you sound very bitter towards Mark Ronson.
mosca makes the point perfectly. winehouse tries to play it straight, gets nowhere except for a few angry lesbians chain smoking at her gigs. then silver-spoon rich kid ronson gets wheeled in with a predictable revival of the 'motown hit sound' (you know, SAW used to do this in the 80s) and people that have no clue about either soul music or hip hop simply lap it up. add clifford on the tragic-diva PR spin and cha-ching - grammyville

Prince wishes he was Kayne West? - hahahahaah that's the single most funny thing I have ever read on this board. Prince is the No 1 soul artist of the 80s. You think Kayne could have sold out the 02 centre for 21 nights running?
Joss Stone is a soulless fool. I have always hated her style. The lyrics that are written for her should only be sung by a woman who is around 30 and has some experience in life. Not by a middle class 19 year old who has never experienced anything remotely soul/heart breaking.
Again you comparisons are weak.

You still sound very bitter towards Mark Ronson. If it is so easy why didn't you do it? Oh that's right because SAW did it in the late 80's.
I'm not a huge fan of Ronson's Versions album and I actually listened to Ronson host the Radio One show back in January and he came over very arogant and a bit of a tosser. BUT you can not argue with the quality of the Back to Black album. I love the way that it reminds me of the early Staxx stuff. It is a quality album and will be regarded as a stone cold classic. I have a huge soul/rare groove music collection. The Amy Winehouse album stands up to a lot of it.

why not just listen to early staxx stuff then? Why suckle at the 'this is what's cool, you will like it' teat?
What makes Amy the best british talent in 12 years?
remembering, she didn't actually do anything bar write some lyrics and sing on her latest album.
at least she played guitar on her first.

IMO, the Amy Winehouse phenomenon proves yet again just how powerful the media is, and how easy it is to manipulate the 'lemming' mentality of the general public.
It's the emporer's new clothes...

Well that's exactly the point isn't it?!?!
All she did was write some lyrics and sing on a grammy winning album. Yes that's very easy. I wonder if she used Live?
Her tone and phrasing are brilliant. She can wail. She has the most interesting singing voice of any UK artist in the last 12 years. IMO.

I'm not talking at all about sound quality, I just thought overall it was really lame, sorry. Wasn't inspiring, moving, motivating, or even entertaining. I'll admit I'm not the biggest rap fan, it just seemed kinda half assed to me. Some dude randomly talking (poorly) over a daft punk loop.
Spot on.
Just another bland corporate wankfest with a million quids worth of lights and pyros to cover up for the fact that there's fuck all else going on.
Takes more than an inept MC and two blokes in robot suits miming with a couple of lemurs to get me jumping up and down.

isn't it exhausting to be so critical about EVERYTHING?
back to black was pretty dope when i first heard it, but it's been on the shelf for a while, oh well. ronson does his thing, but like someone else said, after hearing him on radio 1 i'm not rushing out to get his record. i still would rather hear his stuff on the radio than most of what's on there. i'd still crank his cover of just if it came on.
likewise, yesterday morning i was listening to that daft punk 'discovered' cd that has all the songs they sampled. daft punk hardly did anything to the song and then kanye sampled that. i was skeptical about the performance, but still, when i'm at home on a sunday night watching cbs and daft punk appears in their pyramid with the lightup suits and 4 lemurs i'm loving it.
would it have been better if kanye's special guests was autechre?
would everyone find some way to hate on that too?

No. It would still have been an average MC shouting over a slowed down loop of somebody else's record with two guys in robot suits miming over a couple of Lemurs at the back.
I'm sure it's as tiresome for you to read people dissing your favourite pop-star as it is for people like me to read others shitting their pants as if that video constituted some kind of "year-zero" in contemporary music.
It wasn't.
It was just another average televisual wankfest.

i don't care what people write about ronson, winehouse, lily allen, etc. not a big fan, but still on the better end of the radio spectrum.
i'm just sayin that i think it's rad to see some robot suit action on tv instead of more carrie underwood or whoever.
i'm no tortured artist or philosopher so take it with a grain of salt i guess.

I enjoyed it for what it was - throwaway television entertainment.
I didn't expect it to inflame my soul with passion, or awaken it to reason and help to cultivate temperance, nor did I expect to stroke my chin whilst pondering mankind’s adventures in warfare around the world due to humans tapping out mother earth’s ability to sustain our presence.
It's was just show-biz fun.

Agreed - he's a very safe rapper. No disrespect but he's in that Maroon 5 category. Real safe music white college kids put on at house parties when they want to 'crank it up a notch'
he's loaded and extremely popular (some of his beats are pretty good), I'm not taking that from him. But even in the black community he's considered a 'tool' as far as being an MC and entertainer is concerned.
If you want real without being too real Common is pretty much gold. He's real, can rap and has all the street cred you need from 'yo peoples'
Amy Winehouse - can't say I'm following her career. She can sing, that's easy. If she really has a problem with drugs I hope she gets help (if she really wants help). That's that.

Remarkable after all these years to see Gary Numan's 1979 stage set back out of the garage...all DP need to do now is hire Tik and Tok as support and they'll have a real band

Sounds like Kanye's needing the honey tea - but to give him credit it doesn't sound like he's using the autotune.
