i've played a shitload of shows with an mpc2000xl at the helm.

i do think it is great at some things. and when i first made the switch from mpc and racks of gear and a mixer to ableton (and reason when i first started going software) there were definately a lot of things that the mpc and other hardware i was using were just WAAAAY better at. ableton has improved a lot since then.

i just don't think that staring into that tiny screen and pushing buttons to step sequence or set up arps is a good look. software is going to blow it out of the water for that all day. that's not really subjective unless you are being crazy stubborn.

of course you're right L.M. as well as the instrument programs that the 1000 and 2500 now have via the jj os, those things are better on a laptop, but I look at it like this, all of these things are in addition to the things I use on the mpc anyway, for instance i don't use step sequencers to make drums i play them but there is alot that can be done with this little box and a pair of headphones and all though the screen is small, I'm not constantly adjusting it, or fucking with the mouse and it's much more comfortable on my lap than my damn laptop.

I can sit on the floor with the mp, go counter top, or let the mp give me a lapdance and it's all very comfortable, plus its built like a tank and still light enough to carry around in my bag. no crashes, no moody apps and it's alot of fun, plus my focus stays right, ears not eyes.

on the other hand though I'm finding a new nirvana on the computer side of things by using them in tandem,

student - do you have to pay for the JJOS2 if you have the JJOS original?

the JJOS page is a legendarily insane page to read, da emmPEEcee FoRuMs YO! izn't much bettaz. I did the OS2 download but when I go to the S/N page it shows a different ID for the box, and and the old code doesn't work. I have 4.99H loaded, OS2 is on the drive, I can dual boot between them.

yes you have to pay for it, you can dual boot and use it with out paying but you won't be able to save anything.

when you're on the mpc forums make sure you read through everything in stan steezes manual rewrite, it's a sticky on the jj1000 page and is full of info you will need, translated and easier to understand than jjs page
