Too bad roughly half of the bedroom musicians I've met and I'd say 90% of "pros" I've seen use macs...

Yeah, I don't much care for the black "imac" border but other than that from an asthetic standpoint it's a gorgeous machine.

Yup. And ALL except for 2 amateur musicians I know use Macbooks. The other two use pros.

If you mean good OR affordable (rather than good AND affordable), then I'll mention the RME expresscard option which is fab, but not cheap!

You can still use FW400 gear with the FW800 ports. Just need a 400 to 800 cable.

The FW thing sucks, for sure, but I'm also kind of bummed about the touchpad and being forced into using tap-to-click, which I've always despised.

Everytime I use the laptops at work that have tap to click turned on, I always end up tapping and dragging things I don't want to. It's going to make using these lappies live a nightmare for me.

Does anyone here use there touchpad live with tap-to-click on? Do you get use to it?

I've always hated it too! Another bad feature of the new MB's.

BTW, I know you can just use a FW 400 to 800 cable, but it's still a PITA since all of my FW gear is FW400 and I'd have to buy more cables. OH WELL.

I am sure you will be able to adjust the sensitivity.... but I it will be something to get used to. Get yourself a trackball.

So is this the first time the macbook pros use the magnetic screen closing of the macbooks as opposed to the little clips of the old macbook pros? If so, I'm SOLD! Well, not really....

It really depends on the quality & responsiveness of the trackpad. My old powerbook 500 had a great trackpad, it really spoiled me. My current powerbook 1.5GHz has a lame trackpad.

There is clicking, dragging, & drag lock. I've settled on mainly using click & drag. But I also use the button because the trackpad is sooo lame!

I'll echo another poster by advising you to get a trackball -the champagne of controllers!
