basic question:
if you use mashine as VST within live
how does it (LIVE) record clips if maschine is the "sequencer"

There are lots of ways to work with Maschine along with Live. It's just a matter of workflow preference. I like to use Maschine as a plugin in Live and then drag and drop Maschine's patterns into Live as audio clips (you can do midi clips too). Maschine's scenes can also be triggered from Live via midi notes or program changes. So in my case, I use Maschine as the primary sequencer to come up with most of my stuff and Live is ultimately the master arranger where I can supplement it with other plugins if desired.sailordrift wrote:basic question:

Sometimes I like to use Maschine purely as standalone, keeping it all in the box. You can even have it be the Master sequencer syncing to Live or other software via IAC/MIDI Yoke. And thanks to Maschine's awesome ability to resample clean loops via bpm-synced re/sampling (in however many bars), it's super easy to integrate sequences or audio from other programs right into Maschine, and even having the new sample triggered at the start of the next bar, and never having to stop Maschine's sequencer the whole time. This way, you can play Maschine live like a classic self-contained hardware.
Of course, you can record Maschine's multiple output audio into Live's tracks as well if you wish, like traditional tracking out. Or you can record Maschine's MIDI output into Live and have those Live clips control Maschine. Drag and drop is just quicker.

this is similar to how you do it with the D16 instruments (Phoscyon for instance)delicioso wrote:There are lots of ways to work with Maschine along with Live. I've tried this, and sometimes the triggering doesn't happen. Have you ever seen this or does it tend to work well for you?delicioso wrote: ... Maschine's scenes can also be triggered from Live via midi notes or program changes. ...

i'm sure delicioso has done everything on this box, but take is that maschines sequencer is craptastic, and will be overhauled I'm sure, ableton live has been out for how many years now, and the mpc has been out for how many years now, I think Ni had bigggggg balls to go and put maschine out without a proper songmode, but I'm sure that it will be rectified in the next update. You should be able to easily without headache string together a song and record mutes in any groovebox that comes out today. until then exporting audio and running the rest in live does not break the workflow too too much.

what i would love is the ability to trigger maschine PATTERNS w/ midi notes, instead of maschine SCENES
Re: The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
Could anybody with experience with both the MPC and Maschine compare how drums sound? Gearlust...

Im thinking about buying it. Couldnt you just use the drag and drop into Live and trigger from there?
Re: The Maschine & Ableton Love Thread ;) [upon user request]
Triggering worked well for me but I just drag and drop to Live because it's just easier and fits my workflow better.andrewbrewer wrote:I've tried this, and sometimes the triggering doesn't happen. it really depends on your audio interface, that's what's going to determine the sound, you can play the same drum samples in either the mpc or maschine. Maschines sample library is adequate but imho not a reason to buy any drumsampler. Maschine beats the mpc in the efx department and sample mangling, some people prefer maschines sequencer to the mpc but generally speaking those are people who prefer using a daw to sequence than hardware. the mpc beats maschine in the immediacy department. There are folks who'll tell you that that's not the case and that they experience no latency with maschine and that it feels just like an mpc but honestly this just isn't true (not in my opinion) there is a definite difference to the feel of both and I am a huge fan of using both. Also currently the mpc is heaps better for controlling external hardware instruments.T.I.M. wrote:Could anybody with experience with both the MPC and Maschine compare how drums sound? Gearlust...
all of that said imo maschine is a no brainer purchase especially off the used market.
