Just remembered something that's been giving me whimsical dreams at night. I noticed when you sign up for a data plan for the 3g it assigns the device a phone number. I wonder if something is going to open that up for something beyond just data transfer…maybe in the OS update?
And I have no doubt in the next generation iPads there will be cameras. I think it's kind of an oversized device to be using for taking pictures or videos but it would be something the Apple would really want to push the Face Time concept on.

Hit a moment with the iPad this morning. Up to then I was perfectly content using it with just apps but this morning I decided I wanted to put some movies on it but when I went to transfer the movies it said 4 out of the 5 couldn't be transfered because the iPad can't read the format. If iTunes can read the format then why the fuck can't the iPad??!?!?

Get air video mate. You can either watch the movies directly or press convert and it will make them iPad friendly which u can drag and drop and sync in iTunes or stream without them being converted on the flybeats me wrote:Hit a

Explain. Is this an iPad app AND desktop software? I don't want to stream because I plan to be well far from my MBP. So I want them on the HD on the iPad. I'm going to be mad if I have to reconvert a bunch of movies I already ripped that iTunes can read.

I used handbrake to rip a bunch of movies. I don't really fiddle with any of the settings. I just make sure the file comes out to be about 400 MB per hour and that's proven to be just fine for even full wall projector viewing.
I read a few things. First off something in the new iPhone OS and iPad OS makes it so it only reads .mp4 files. This may be a new handicap that didn't exist on the old iPhone OS. But I checked the files that won't sync and they all have a .mp4 extension.
Then there was some discussion about file size restrictions but movies bought from iTunes are huge and bigger than anything I convert.
Then there was some murmurings that you can use the dropbox app and put your files in that and that should read the movies fine. I'm in the process of doing that now BUT there is a 2 GB restriction unless you want to pay (and I don't)and it's taking fooooooorever to sync even just one movie. Even if it works it's not worth the time involved and size restriction.
These are the facts as I know them.
PS. If you didn't know they just released OS updates for the iPhone and iPad and from what I gather the only thing it does is prevent your devices from being jailbroken for now...unless you're a 14-year-old with a weekend to spare on such ventures.

I dropped a movie in my desktop folder and that took several hours to upload to their server. Then I connected with the iPad app and while the movie did appear it was extremely slow to buffer and play. If you want the movie on your iPad then you mark that file with a star and it transfers the file to the iPad. I was about an hour and a half into that transfer process when I went to bed and it still wasn't done. When I woke up this morning the file was on the iPad but wouldn't play at all, also got that little sun wheel at the top like it was trying to connect or buffer. So in conclusion this option is bullshit.

So what do I reconvert them with and make sure it's done properly? On iTunes for music there's the right click "convert to mp3" option which you can also do in bulk, but there's no such type option for movies. Like I said, this is a newly discovered issue for me and as far as I was concerned they were all converted to a readable format, yet some work, but most don’t and I didn't suddenly change my converting technique at one point.
On a related note, it's sometimes shocking when you find out you are new to the party on known issues but then when you search for answers it's fairly quiet. Can't believe I'm one of the few outraged people out there on this issue. I guess like I was, there's still a lot of people enamored with apps and have yet to explore some of the old hat usage features that may not work.
