i thought that too. my older MBP 2.2 quad i7 tops out at 16%.
looks like those using Lion seem to fare worse than those on Snow Leopard.
i'll wait to see how ML does before i consider upgrading from SL.

Most definitely not. even just changing the buffer size 'at most' to 128.
I imagine the "test set" is created in such a way that everyone can use it who has a basic copy of Live.
Yet it would be interesting to see '
results' with some standardized set with VST's, complex routings, lots of Automation, High Quality settings across multiple instruments i.e DrumRack, etc.
Those results would be interesting.
Anxious to see more new MBP tests.

Hmm, this certainly debunks the few "64 bits are eating less CPU than the 32 bit" posts I have seen.

I made one of those posts.
the drumRack that I
always use gets significantly lower CPU numbers in 64bit.
I consider that much more relevant than this performance test.

So I just tried with my new SSD
1. Ableton Live CPU Meter: Average 25%, spike 31%
2. Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Late 2011 MBP 15"
3. Operating System? 10.7.4 Lion
4. Ableton Live version? 8.2.7
5. CPU Make, Model, and Speed? 2.2 GHz i7 quad core
6. Amount of Ram? 4 GB
7. Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? Built in
8. Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)? SSD (Like 480 MB/s read)
9. Number of playback tracks? 8
And after discovering that my Live was hopelessly dated, I updated and re-tested. CPU usage is maybe like 2-3% lower on average now, with 8.3.1
