I'm just saying that it hasn't reached the real creative cats yet in mass, at least not the ones who put up vids on youtube and vimeo yet, anyway this vid here is a good example of why comparing instruments is not easy sometimes. you've prob seen this before, it's the same cat as the above vid but instead of msschine he's on his mpc and I must say I enjoy his mpc made stuff alot better than that maschine vid. I think that maschine vid is crap and in contrast I think his mpc vids are dope as fuck so there you have it
I think you can see that he does not feel the same on both machines and this is what playing an instrument is all about and why the mpc is so revered, it's not just about being a sampler with pads, there are many and they all inspire in a different way imho

I really like what this guy does with his maschine : http://www.youtube.com/user/KnockSquared

And sometimes he gets pretty creative, no need for amazing finger skills

when you play a classical piece on your piano, I don't think you have time to scratch your nose or do some c00l gangsta sign with your left hand.
I think that's a silly point.

Having the technical ability to hit the pads faster or more accurately than the guys in the video does not give them the creativity it took to come up with that. Maybe there's lots of piano players who could copy that, but would they be able to come up with it in the first place?

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with "You're The One For Me" and you'd have a better idea of what they actually did.

STRATEGY
well that was a part of my point. I don't think that was that much creative.
what is so creative about it? there is lots of videos about mpc/maschine and stuff like that that are impressive, not for the technical parts but how they create an amazing beat with just 16 pads, but not this video.

I thought it was an amazing recontruction/remix. to put it plainly, the way they flipped the D-Train sample was dope as fuck. then the other played parts were paying homage to the D-Train sample. That's why I said:

"Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with "You're The One For Me" and you'd have a better idea of what they actually did."

But then again, for something to sound good you shouldn't have to have background on it, you either like it or don't. I guess it just didn't do it for you.

It's not the greatest thing I ever heard, but it made me go "wow" for sure. Nice that it was a live performance, but I would've liked it almost just as much all sequenced out, I wonder if they did a studio version of this track?

yes, that's just my opinion of course.

Pretty well said : for something to sound good you shouldn't have to have background on it, you either like it or don't.

Anyway, let's all have fun with our machines

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I am going to reformat my hard drive and reinstall both ableton and maschine. The software that came with my maschine is version 1, not the most recent 1.5. Do I have to install version 1 and then use service center to update to the 1.5 or is there a way to install 1.5 directly? Thanks.

that's what I had to go through after buying maschine. I carefully noted the procedure in case I have to do a re-install. :

here is how to do a fresh Maschine installation:

1) run the DVD installer
2) check the version of the installed Maschine (click on NI logo in MASCHINE)

3a) if you have Maschine 1.0.0 or 1.0.2:
- download & install "MASCHINE 1.0.0 Factory Library [Win/OSX] Update"
3b) if you have Maschine 1.0.3, go directly to step 4 (<-- me)

4) download & install Maschinne 1.5 update
5) download & install "MASCHINE 1.5 Factory Library [Win/OSX] Update"

6) done

If you have trouble with Step 1 on Mac OS X 10.6, check our download page for this patch:
"MASCHINE 1.0.3 Fix for Mac OS X 10.6"

You will find all mentioned updates on our Download page:

It's more like 6GBs since the 1.5 update. It's in Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Maschine/Maschine Library

Dunno why, but for me it's in /Users/shared/Maschine Library.

No, my HD was almost full - reclaimed 6gb

Actually selling more gear and buying an 8 channel soundcard so I can record the 8 outs of the MPC or SP simultaneously and I am going to do 80% of my writing on hardware.

Kind of a silly point seeing that Maschine only came out less than 2 years ago. Anyway, I didn't realize you could judge a gear's potential to make good music from youtube videos.

it is silly and you can't judge an instrument by youtube. I wasn't making a point by stating those things just an observation, I know some dope cats who've got maschine who don't make youtube vids
