iPad
Re: iPad
More great reporting. The reaction to the keynote is being reported as zombies pacing around Apple stores going “What? No new iPhone?”

Re: iPad
It seems a very odd decision to put Jony Ive in charge of interface decisions. Sure he's done great with the physical products, but software interface design is very different. The skills are not directly transferable, what makes for a good box is not the same thing that makes for a good interface.
The pretence that these two practices have directly transferable skills seems based purely on moving a valuable chess piece around the board to reassure jumpy stock holders, and regardless of the practical outcome for the product.

I also noticed the iOS 7 intro video featuring Ive made it look quite brilliant, but the on stage demo not so much.
And if skeuomorphism is dead, why make everything look like it was typed on a white piece of paper? From one extreme to the other.
Re: iPad
Some icons are better, but most are inexplicably much worse. Including rookie mistakes like making the circles too close to the icon edge, or weak contrast and silhouette. The worst one is probably Newsstand .. WTF is that? Probably my favourite one is the Calculator, but even there it seems the new stroke weight is too thin for acquisition and legibility.
Perhaps they'll fix all the contrast and legibility mistakes before final release, but to me it seems amateurish.

Re: iPad
Yeah, some are hoping Apple will iron out some of the finer details before final release, but you would think if nothing else this redesign would be a monument to consistency across the board. I guess we can start making judgment calls on the final release.
I’m curious about the 3D-like properties of the wallpaper when you move the device around. I also like how they added swipe to delete in the email app which they took from the 3rd party MailBox app, or maybe they were working on that anyway. I read some article about 10 third party apps that will now be redundant because Apple added the functionality by default.

Re: iPad
I was going to write something about this skeu thing, but there are bigger problems in the world. Like, who ffffing invented infinite scroll? I cant scan-read anything now. You just broke the internets in one fell swoop-swoop-swoop-again-loading-swoop-up-back-down-where-was-it-shit-ill-search-for-it swoop. If I find them I will infinitely scroll my fist into their face.
Re: iPad
the funniest one has always been the "phone icon".
surely the phone icon should be a phone the kids actually recognise ?

Re: iPad
I like the new design, it reminds me a bit of android on htc but i think this is better.
Osx mavericks looks wippdee doo, I was hoping they would go flat with that also.
I wonder why they didn't bother showing what ios7 looks like on the ipad though.

Re: iPad
unless HTC have changed recently... that is a compliment. their "Sense" layover is by far the best looking UI i've seen on an Android phone.nathannn wrote:I like the new design, it reminds me a bit of android on htc

How long will the diskette survive as an icon for saving stuff? What other icon would make sense for it?Angstrom wrote:the funniest one has always been the "phone icon".

Man throwing paper at computer...
And what about the look of computers in the future?
Hmm, this might get a bit confusing:

"Who threw this half eaten apple into my Mac?"
Re: iPad
If I were to wake up one day and decide I am no longer one of the hypnotized cApple iSheep I think I would get an HTC One phone. Sounds like its quality. I seem to recall that about a year ago some were predicting HTC was doomed.
Much like today some predicting Apple is doomed.

Re: iPad
i know you don't want to hear this... but... the Samsung Galaxy is a nice fucking phone.
i know you want to hear this even less... but... chicks, at least around here, have been ditching their iPhones for the Galaxy. i know at least 3.
i know you don't want to accept this... but... once, not so long ago, the thing in everyone's hand at the airport and public transit and such was an iPhone... i've seen A LOT more people with Androids lately.
i fuck with you a lot about Apple, but i'm not kidding at all in this post.

I don’t have a problem with that, but have you surveyed these women as to exactly why they switched phones? I’m sure the reasons will be fascinating and well informed.
Re: iPad
Interesting question. Maybe the save action will become obsolete anyway, everything automatically saved and versioned and backed-up.hoffman2k wrote:How long will the diskette survive as an icon for saving stuff? What other icon would make sense for it?
