Session View Automation
yeah... that's the only thing...
a way to record automation and then treat it like it's treated in arrangement view... I never understood how you can use the automation in session view... this relativ mode really sucks and it not a wyhiwyg approach...
or maybe someone can shed a light on how to use it...

don't rewrite live! just add a absolut session midi mode!!!
pleassse!

I know that most hated the idea, but some scoring/notation feature would have been nice. Perhaps an add on that you don't have to pay for if you don't want.

Be prepared that this will never happen. If you look at the Ableton logo you will understand that the 2 views (session and automation) and their horizontal/vertical direction are like one of the basic ideas of this product.

Touchscreen support. I'd like to flip my tablet back and just use the touchscreen, but I need the mousepad for adjusting knobs not covered in automap.

However, I am very excited about this.

So why couldn't you score to session view in specific bar looped lengths, and in arrange view linearly? Its just another way of assigning and editing within the same dynamic structure that everything else is tailored to.

I am prepared for it to never happen though.

Exactly, and why should we? If Max for Live is going to be the universal answer
to everything (UAE), the "Feature wish list" forum will become a "feature order"
forum, where everyone who has Max for Live will be able to have some other
user program whatever it is they need. It's kind of like bullying people into getting
Max for Live, while at the same time having users come up with solutions to
feature requests. How will this affect future versions of Live? How will it look
when new official features have already been achieved by users in MFL?
This is taking the whole Web 2.0 thing a bit too far, IMO, unless they are going
to start hiring users as freelance programmers for every little implementation.

Hello sporkles,

Max for Live is certainly not the answer for everything - it simply opens possibilities
to reach solutions for more "individual" needs. There are plenty of things which are still very desirable to have in Live -
and those can not be solved via Max for Live. There are and will be still many many wishes for future Live versions.
But Max for Live is a very big step forward in tech for art.

Best,
Christian

and, not only that. SELECTION TOOL is apparently missing. i've always hated that in Live's arrangement you select a time part of it, not the specific files you want to select. i wish they fixed that and then, for me, it's all done.
awesome release btw! great work abes!

Some people look at software very oddly!

"what did they miss?" is just the wrong question. They didn't 'miss' anything, they just haven't done it yet.

There is a weird idea off some people that software MUST achieve everything all in one go. Which is just impossible.

I was also just thinking about this, still no "marquis select" ability to grab non-contiguous clips it seems. :?

It needn't be a tool necessarily, just click+drag...

Just being able to slice a clip with "S" (like almost every other daw) instead of the awkward Ctrl+E would be so nice...but it goes way deeper than that of course.

They forgot to put in something no one asked for.

They’ve taken the most popular feature requests and done as many of them as they could. Live started as a totally unique program to try and do things very differently. In a way, it’s almost a shame that all of the new features look like they’ll work exactly as people would expect them to and not in some wierd Ableton way. Even the max in live thing seems to be what everyone was hoping for from the partnership.

That’s not a complaint at all, I think all these features were needed. But the real surprise was the shear amount of additions they made and not some crazy new idea that no one else had even dreamed of.

Absolutely 100% agree.

To all the moaners out there, I tell you what, how about Ableton don't release an update for the next ten years? That way they can implement everything.

But I bet in the mean time you moaners would moan about the wait

There are so many GOOD things in terms of the Live 8 update, Max for Live, and the APC. Why not spend some time thinking about things you can achieve with those tools instead of complaining about things you can't do?
