Hmm. I don't recall anyone on this forum making their own. Has it been done by someone around here?

their own from scratch or from a kit? lots were done from kits, try a search. from scratch? check the arduino forums. it's been great to see that kind of stuff being done by the average person.

From the kit.
Been searching for the past 10min, and have run across quite a few posts from folks saying that they've ordered the kit/kit has arrived. Only 1 post so far in which someone claims to have actually completed the project. No photos at all.

Gotta keep searching.
Damn, I wish that there were some shots of completed kits. It'd be fascinating to see the different approaches people took with the housing and plate design.
I have, however, run across at least a dozen posts by beats - over a 1 1/2 period - in which he claims that he's 'lost interest and the excitement has disappeared'. But he still seems to be excited on some level because he keeps posting on the subject, lol.

Oh, and I am planning to make another one, with arduino and the sparkfun buttons. Not as easy I guess, but really doable though.

^ whoa, how did you split up the colors?
the kits are easy to put together, right? it can take some time, an hour or three because there are 64 lights and 64 diodes but it's just the same movement over and over.

In summary: I was excited for a spell. In January of 2008 I sat with my finger banging away on the refresh button on their site starting 10 minutes before their limited quantity ordering system went live. When it went live I couldn't navigate their POS site within the 2 MINUTES that they sold out. I was then put on the waiting list for the next 100 to be sent out which didn't happen until October, 10 MONTHS LATER! At that point I did my own personal "fuck you guys" silent rejection and from that moment on reserved the right to piss on any and all monome threads.

@Tone Deft : one blue line/one orange line and so on. I use it mainly for triggering clips in live (one track=one color, reflecting the colors on the screen). For MLR, 90° degrees rotation and one line=one sample.

And yes, the kits are very easy to do. A few components to solder thats all. The diodes are a bit painful to solder, but with good eyes a patience, it's good. For the leds, it's easy and fun.
The hardest thing is really the box.

Dear Tone.
I'm afraid your emotional investment in me is many times greater than I can aspire to matching.
