Live 8 is really stable on my machine, but i clearly remember how Live 7 was working for me when it was released: NOT AT ALL.
I also remember how MANY people had problems with Live 7 when it came out and how mad people got.
Here one of many threads which went on after Live 7 was released (they definitely rushed into that release for sure):
http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 7+released
So, it´s not the first time where the Abes maybe should have taken more time before the release.
But than again: it´s running stable on my machine

I totally agree with your words.
Perhaps Ableton should offer discounts for each bug encountered during its official release. They'd soon understand the importance of more thorough beta testing above marketing pressures.
I upgraded from Live 5 to Live 7 under a year ago so missed out all the thrills and spills of its initial teething problems.
Knowing that Ableton are prone to premature releases, surely this will impact on their initial sales when L9 rears its (possibly/probably) buggy head. Like L8, I won't be rushing in with my credit card in hand.

i'm really sorry to bitch, but i can't sit down with ableton 8.0.2b1 ("b1" only acknowledges the fact that there's a forecast storm of beta's before we actually get a stable 8 version.) for more than 15 minutes without having an issue. adding more than 20 warp markers to a clip, software becomes unresponsive, play button turns green or stays green, the stop button does nothing. takes about 5 minutes for the application to shutdown. this is disheartening, sorry to bitch, but i was really looking forward to using ableton as a writers block breaker, and now i'm stuck sitting here with my thumb up my ass. where's REASON...............
for the sake of humanity...let me authorize a 7 version with my 8 serial......

you could send them crash logs and/or bug report snapshots to help fixing your issues..

Reminds me of an event that happened in Belgium many years ago.
So kids got sick from drinking cola. This made the news and started a panic.
Suddenly the whole country was getting sick from cola.
But in fact they weren't. They were getting sick because they thought they were sick. In actuality there was nothing wrong with them apart from some psychological group phenomenon.
So I'm not saying the Live isn't contaminated. I'm just saying that the bug forum isn't the best indication of how Live works for you!

RE: Certain firewire implementations at fault for abletons w

all of my ableton issues have been resolved (for now)
Two setups:
Setup 1: Korg Zero 8, latest firmware 1.60, with latest Firewire Drivers 1.10. Windows XP Pro SP3 Fully patched and Ableton Live 8.0.2b1. BUGGY.
Bug 1: Running ableton and leaving it sit for about 15 minutes, causes it to become unresponsive, play button (global) turns green. Stop button does nothing. Program becomes extremely slow, sometimes it takes 10 minutes for the app to shutdown. Only fix is a full system reboot. (Korg ZERO 8 Firewire Driver in an "Error" state)
Bug 2: adding 15 or more warp markers to a clip, causes the same. (Korg ZERO 8 Firewire Driver in an "Error" state)
Setup 2: M-Audio Profire 610, with latest Firewire Drivers. Windows XP Pro SP3 Fully patched and Ableton Live 8.0.2b1.
Ableton works without a hitch. The problem here is with KORG's firewire implementation. I wouldn't be surprised if other manufacturers firewire drivers are at fault for 80% of 8.0.x's bugs. Especially the "memory leak" type of issues.
I'm returning my ZERO 8 because they haven't released any updated firewire drivers in over a year.

Ableton made my jaw drop when they released this beta, looked like they had been working like id**+s, since the list was massive. didn't crash all the day yesterday. it has it's flaws, but if you follow the rules of "save often", youR#e on the safe side.

i just got one problem:
i am djing with the beta version right now. it`s still better than the 8.1 version.
unfortunatelly i got a gig on april 30th. but i probably won`t start till 1st may in that night.
are you guys puttin out another version before this one expires???
pleas do so!!!
thanks.
I was wondering about this.
I've got a project in the beta i'm working on atm and i would obviously be rather inconvenienced to be locked out of it.
Will there be another beta released before the expiration of the current version?

Yeah, as it often happens with software, Ableton Live is the front end, so many things are hidding behind, especially VST and audio drivers. When investigating a Live crash, 99% of the time, the real culprit was either a VST or my FW driver. Now I'm not saying that it's not live using drivers/vst in a wrong way sometimes, but the fact is : since I changed my audio interface driver and stoped using a couple of VST, I had ZERO crash with live 8.
So please, guys, don't blame everything on Ableton
Furthermore, Live is very good at recovering a set after a crash...I wish all the software were like this !
