No, he doesn't. Neither does Los Lobos or whatever the fuck this douchebag's name is.

Logic, for example, is very neutral in sound but Ableton...you can hear it in two seconds.
mainly because this tells me two things:
1. This guy doesn't understand how DAWs work with sound.
2. This guy doesn't understand how Live works.
Ergo, his opinion is entirely irrelevant to me.

re: ableton users hating on villalobos.
this guy is one of the people who has really pushed the frontiers of electronic music in the last few years.
alchahofa, the au harem d'archimedes, achso, countless remixes.
I think he is well within his right to be slightly overopinioated about sound issues.
maybe in this instance of criticising ableton sound quality he is wrong (though he is not the first person whose opinion I respect to mention it). but anyways, I feel a need to point people to his music instead of this small snapshot of his life.
also i feel sad that everyone always brings up the drugs thing. people blink, no?
sure he probably likes to lose/find his mind in his own preferred way like every other being, but if he gets results, then he gets results.

There is nothing "minimal" about this mindset at all. The debate between the sound engines of logic and ableton is about as nauseating as Villalobos and his boring 45 minute bleep tracks.
I used to be really into this genre about 6 years ago. Back in the nineties, minimal techno was all about doing more with less. Ricardo is just pissed about the fact that so many bedroom producers can easily replicate his sound armed with little more than ableton or reaktor patches. In fact, I've heard better producers using nothing more than fl studio and reason. I think this calls for a "minimal sucks" campaign!
best in show.

^ ^ its not like when they asked him to be interviewed he had to do it.
I don't even think he was trying to bag on Live as much as someone he doesn't like who uses it. Live was just a vehicle for a low blow IMO.

which live? the original one or the one they made out of it or the one they will make out of it?
in the moment it sucks big time..but after so many years its to early to switch imideatly..
It however allways was a reduction in soundquality to do the job with live..
live 1 actually was the best regarding that.. similar to some older digital synths it sounded so grainy and alaised that it was nice again in a way... but wasnt really ment as a daw back than.. 8 tracks ..8 loops... and good syncing on an external midiclock made it to great companion to an hardware live act... but...
inbetween that the status has changed so often... when i really think about it..ableton live caused more problems than any other audio software i ever used...
i really would love to have studio vison back..this program was so great in so many areas..
but the midi was so fucked on the pre os x macs... ok better than on any windows machine..but too bad never the less..
In the end of the day its maybe again the mpc that is the best livetool of
them all.
And logic for the rest

But Ricardo understands very well how to work with a daw...
I think that matters more than to understand how it works...
And he also owns live and has used it when i remember it correctly..
beside that he has the possebility to listen to all that over 20k monitors in an acoustical improoved room...
I guess he knows what he is talking about...

You see, that's just it...I KNOW he knows what he's talking about. Then he makes statements like that that make me not find anything else he says to be credible.

of course he knows how to produce but he talks about it like a twat which only makes it worse when people in his position say crap like this. clearly he needs to grow up (fuck, that coming from me?)
dunno, when people start talking about how they identify with jazz I usually leave the room. often jazz is pretentious music for pretentious people.

you're a charming little twat.
after I wrote that you think I'm going to watch some random youtube? what is it?
I go through jazz phases, I appreciate it. note my post was about people that identify with jazz, people that tie their ego and taste to jazz.
