But by assigning all the pads to midi outs, then you can use Maschine's other features, like step sequencer, swing etc...

am, if you have a minute to explain this "assigning all the pads to midi outs" bit I would appreciate it as I am an idiot.

My Maschine was delivered yesterday

This is probably a stupid question but is it possible to do what this guy is doing in this vid with Live and say a Padkontrol?

The way it auto-quantizes his playing is pretty cool. Shame Maschine is so pricey

hehe... ok.

I created a project file which sends midi notes out from each pad.... each group (A-F in my template) works like a different page (i guess that's how i'd describe it) which correspond to the 16 pads on drum maps.

So, if you want to go up or down the drum racks pads, you select which page you want to be on by selecting whatever group corresponds to that particular section of the drum racks.

Now i guess the difference between this and the fragmented template, is that because this is a project file, and not acting like a control surface, so....

First you have to set up a VSTi version of Maschine and route the midi from Maschine into a drum racks channel. this is done by selecting the midi input from the channel that maschine is on and then in the drop box underneath that, select neither post FX nor Pre FX, but "maschine" which is underneath that.... note: this only occurs when you use a VST version of Maschine, an AU version will not do it.

after you do this, you can program beats from within the maschine software, use the step sequencer, swing functions etc...

I've uploaded a zip of a live set file which has it set up.. i've even named a lot of the pads for use with one of the NI Abbey Road Kits, which pretty much follows the standard GM layout... but feel free to rename those to suit your own needs.

Here's the file.

enjoy!

Are you kidding me!!! I've never used an MPC but if it's anything like what I'm experiencing with Maschine I get it.

Well, I finally got around to trying to set this up. I'm either missing something or doing something wrong because I can't get the pads to do anything when I set it up like about.

Here comes the stupid part:

How do I "create a project file which sends midi notes out from each pad"?

does it not work when opening it up as a Live set?

Here's what I did:

Opened a new live set.

Dragged in a VST of Maschine in track 2.
Dragged in an empty Drum Rack in track 3.
Changed the "Midi From" in track 3 (Drum Rack) to "2-Maschine". Changed the field below that to "Maschine". Loaded a kit into the drum rack.

Nothing.

I'm guessing I'm missing something really stupid and obvious like, "you have to put Maschine in control mode you twat" or something. I'm relatively new to all of the above, especially Maschine which I've had for less than 2 weeks and finally went through the entire quickstart guide this weekend.

Oh, and the link that you posted? I downloaded that and couldn't get it to open in Live. I should just be able to drag it in, or open it from Live's broswer, right? Again, I'm an idiot and probably missing something totally obvious.

Something askew here too. When I click in it, it's just a jumbled text file.

But seriously. Don't break your neck doing this. I feel bad even mentioning that this one is messed up too because you really don't need to spend your time helping me. It's really cool that you are though...

Got it to work. When I just tried to open it, my computer would open it as a .txt file. I save it to my desktop as a .als and it worked.

Thanks again for sharing it. I'll give it a shot tonight.

In looking at it, the only thing that looks different from when I tried to set it up myself was that I had monitoring set to "Auto" instead of "In" on the drum rack track.

Thanks again. I really appreciate it.
