As a user of both osx & windows i can honestly say that hands down mac's work better, but thats not to say a windows machine wont or cant work good, but my vote has to go for the mac&osx

Windows machines can work great, but that requires a terrible amount of tweaking and optimizing. Making and backup image of your HDD after installing everything (and not connecting to the internets in between) is wise becouse you have to install everything all over again after 6 months of use. With properly tweaked image you can do this in 10 minutes instead of 3 days.
(And windows is better coZ u can find moor wareZz!! You dont even have to pay for the OS liek those stupid OSX-fagz! I LOL @ THOSE LAM0EZ!)
I have to say that OSX is not a perfect operating system, but its still more comfortable than windows.

I think a lot of the stigma will start going away as Win 7 becomes more popular. Honestly I havent seen a Mac vs PC commerical since they started slamming Win 7 and shortly after Microsoft customer satisfaction skyrocketed.
I have also used both apple and pcs since I was a kid, and since I rarely have a problem with my PC that cant be solved in 5 min I find mac to just be a machine thats easier to use for some people but with less software options and more expensive hardware. I find it amazing how they charge you assrape prices for mediocre upgrades (like ram for instance.) Of course I refuse to buy many name brand pcs because they often ship with crap components (especially power supplies) that tend to cause many people trouble. I can build my own system for cheaper than both anyways and get high performance with quality components.
<-rocking Live 8 Suite stable since release with a ridiculous amount of vst plugins on 3 different pcs and cant remember the last time ive had a crash or a major issue.

Yeh but isn't that the point? those little "5min" problems just aren't as frequent in osx not by a long shot. You do have a good point that one can spec and build there own cheaper more powerful pc etc, like rosti said you still have to do regular backups reinstalls, tweaks not to mention virus scans, defraging etc etc, i know for some people all this messing around maintaining their operating system, building pc's etc is an enjoyable pastime, which is fine for them, but personally speaking i'd rather just turn the thing on and get on with what im doing

Which is exactly what I do...everyday.

Besides the 15 min intitial tweak routine on xp, ive never really had to do much maintenance. My main production machine is rarely fragmented enough to warrant a defrag. Hell I havent done a maintenace routine on that machine in a long long time, probably over a year. My antivirus is only on if/when I install a questionable program or surf the net, which tends to be many peoples problem. Also people leave there antivirus on while working in a daw which is a big no-no and will cause instability. Another main problem I see is that people dont let windows load fully before getting to work, which on XP is a great way to have your computer go crazy. The extra minute goes a long way.
Dont get me wrong, I reccomend every computer stupid friend to buy a mac. Mainly becasue when they fuck something up, I dont want to deal with it. Unfortunately lately this has just led to me learning how to better diagnose mac problems lol.

Apple does do an irresponsible amount of ass raping on RAM and HD upgrades which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Plenty of us know the solution is to just not buy these upgrades through Apple, but then there's a lot of the general public that thinks you either should or have to get these upgrades through Apple and that price increase might keep them from buying a Mac in the first place.
Then there's the hidden cost of Apple Care that it's pretty much universally agreed you should purchase. This will tack on another couple hundred bucks but your ass is virtually covered in almost all scenarios for the next 3 years.

you wouldn't need Apple Care if you were actually confident that your computer wasn't a piece of shit...
so how can you say you have a great computer that never has problems and then go and say that you should purchase Apple Care because the computer will fail in some way.
i've had my HP laptop for about 3 years now. hadn't had a single problem with it until a few months ago when my wireless lan card just wouldn't work. then the mainboard took a dump a day later probably due to the fried lan card. windows caused none of these problems and HP replaced the mainboard and lan card for free. they even paid for shipping both ways. i now have, what i consider to be, a 3 month old laptop with 4 gb of ram dual booting vista 64 and win 7 and i haven't had a blue screen that i can remember that wasn't caused by something i did... like pulling out my rme express card while the computer was still on. it was a dumbass move but i didn't think it was actually pushed in all the way to begin with.

In some cases it can be physical damage and not system related. Yes, Apple covers your clumsy ass.

What does smoking have to do with dropping your laptop?

OMG! Don't tell my boss!! We have over 200 computers that have been running for years... I better get someone to start helping me install everything all over again....
STAT.

My two desktops at home have been going for 4 years and 2 years.... should I reinstall everything 8 times on the first one and 4 times on the latter so I can get caught up?
no time to wait for answers...
**runs away drooling with panicked look & Windows install disks in hand**

where do you mac twats get that shit from?, it's total bollocks, all my PCs have been running for years with no hitches, no re-installs, no optimizations to speak of and I'd put my 4 year old HP laptop up against any macbok for reliability, now run along and play with your toys
