and thank you. I was listening to yours today too and dug the sound scapes. A little slow moving for the mood I was in but that was just me.

I've brought the lappy out with live on it a few times... used it like a effects unit with some reaktor ensembles on sends and a couple of washy sound scape samples for interludes (most all of the performing groups I'm in are improvised) so that helps with transitions. But the couple of times I've taken it out to just play with a drummer and use it for effects and stuff it just didn't sound good and then theres always latency. I'm still brainstorming some interactive effects and what not but I feel like computers are still not quite agile enough (do you feel heat or is it just me?) for what I'm trying to do... which is still only a vague idea You?

Yeah I do need to add some other tracks to my page. Those do get a little sleepy.

I've dumped all my traditional stomp pedals in exchange for a Pod X3 Live and Live. I primarily play Chapman Stick at this point; doing the live looping thing. For all my bass parts when I'm playing in a band setting it's still great to lay down some higher octave runs and noodling and let those loop. With an FCB1010 you can then change scenes and have total control over all clips when jamming. I'll also capture little snippets of what the drummer, singer, or guitarist is doing and loop those as well. Must be careful with that because you're essentially 'stealing' from them in a live setting and sometimes they don't dig what you do with their shit, lol.

The latency issue is nearly non existent for me. A good soundcard will take care of most of that, then good settings. The one thing that I have noticed is that with the Stick, because there's much more attack than with a trad bass or guitar, you do have to come in just a fraction of a second behind the first note when looping the bass notes. If you don't then that first microsecond tone of the string hitting the large fret rails gets slightly cut. You get used to this pretty quickly and it's not all that different from playing with most drummers.

I'd give it another go and see what you can come up with. bosunHavoc is another bassist here that uses Live extensively, as does stringtapper; who is another Stick player.

Over the past couple of months I've worked with a friend who's started making music 6 months ago in mixing her music, and she's a good learner, but instead she's always talking about getting copyright for her music and is super paranoid about people stealing her songs and not giving her credit for that. I just tell her not to worry about it since she's a beginner and to focus on the music more since that's the most important part right now.

A couple weeks ago, she uploaded her music online, and then told me she went out and paid for copyrighting them. Copyrighting music which we weren't even finished mixing yet. Copyrighting music which wasn't even mastered yet. And not to mention copyrighting music that is clipping like hell despite me telling her multiple times to bring down the volume of every track.

And then she told me because not very many people listened to her music despite it being up for 2 days, she was going to make more rock oriented music because "that's what people want now." I've told her to slow down and focus on learning her equipment, but I don't know if she will or not...

Am I wrong about this? I feel bad for writing this because she does have great music if a little reliant on presets, and I just think she needs to slow down and focus on making a great song and not assume that it will be a hit right away. I mean, I have not had a single song on the internet since starting a couple years ago because I want my music to be as original as I can make it, and yet she's been at it for 6 months and already she's buying copyrights and releasing an EP on the internet. I wouldn't exactly call her a wannabe, just an overeager musician with high expectations of her estimated fanbase.

fact is that with electronic music you now can produce tracks even without needing learning how to PLAY an instrument (could it be "classical" or electronic maschine),

that's a kind of hijacking IMHO, I like music, I've got a computer and software, so I can be a producer... not in some years, but NOW...

By the way, that woooooooosh! sound is really old. The first time that I remember really hearing it was back in 86 by a Hip Hop group called Mantronix on the song entitled "Bassline".

Totally true. She also bought a Microkorg and we played around with it. It amazes me how many presets on that thing sound like a full song on their own, and in fact on one preset she said "That's a song right there! We just need to add drums to it!" and I just wanted to say "Jeeze, don't you want to at least be original and learn how this stuff works?" It's not just the Microkorg, all of the softsynths like Massive or Absynth all contain those presets that make wannabes hold down one note and go "shit yes I rule at this song making thing."

She did just email me telling me she's spending her free time now turning knobs and stuff and hearing what happens, so that's good.

You can't expect to be race car driver over night just simply by knowing how to drive a stick shift.

But I'm sure with a generous dose of cleavage she will be an over night success.

I had found myself in a similar situation with a friend I wrote music with. He was more concerned with album cover art, subliminal release dates and strategies. Also the lure of the "Rock'n'roll lifestyle" of drugs and alcohol was more of a draw than actually making music. I ultimately the situation and the time being wasted was so bad that I walked away from not only the musical colaboration, but the friendship.

I understand there is an element of eagerness in your situation. But eagerness does make up for a lack of experience. Although the eagerness to explore (ie knob twiddling) can. Perhaps you could capitalise on that further?

How do you make that "whooosh" sound that I so often hear in pro sounding house music?

you need a Woooshizer, either hardware or plugin

But we can't discuss this here, talking about music production is forbidden in the lounge...

asking the questions isn't that bad even though answers are just a search away. i also think the impatience is bearable to a certain extent taking into consideration the posters' naivety/lack of experience. what i don't find very tolerable is when the same poster consistently asks the same questions after they've been given good answers with which they simply aren't satisfied.

So how do I make that "wooooosh" sound?
