Yup. Quite baffling how Ableton messed this one up after all the time they had to do it right.humnumb wrote:How ironic that a missing feature that required a M4L workaround still requires a M4L workaround even after it's been implemented.

I'd say it's totally reliable.nemoy wrote: do you guys know, if its staable enough for stage?
But keep hope, guys, it's hopefully gonna change in a future update. Glad if this helps, anyway !

Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
Hi Chapeller fou, I'm doing something very similar to you: I have 8 audio tracks armed and ready to record, and 3 audio inputs with real instruments playing into them. Live 9 completely screwed up my liveset, I wasn't aware of it until just before a gig: many nights of programming (I control everything through M4L) but couldn't get it to work reliably, I had to go back to Live8. Never been so happy I make a backup of every working version of my system.
So.. I don't understand how you make the shift+o trick work. I use keyboard commands for a few tricks - but I use the Shell object, not aka.keyboard.
I can map 'o' to the record session function but SHIFT + o = capital O!! so that doesn't do anything because that is not the key it is mapped to.. how did you get yours to work?
and.. did you see any change with the latest live version? as far as I can see this issue is not resolved

Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
Basvik, since 9.0.3 there's a new option in preferences which solves the problem. It's just not stated clearly :
... it's not obvious at all for people who didn't follow this thread, though.
That's how Ableton describe the thing, but it really is about Chapelier Fou's topic.Added a new option to the "Record/Warp/Launch" preferences pane: "Start Transport with Record". If activated, the transport will start immediately when clicking on the Session- or Arrangement-Record buttons. If deactivated, it prepares for recording as in Live 8, so you have to launch a clip in Session View or click the 'Play' button. You can hold down the Shift modifier key when clicking on the record buttons to invert the behavior temporarily.

Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
thank you - I do believe it works, I'll go through a few different scenarios and post again if something is still missing. So with 'Start Transport with Record' OFF the new 'session record button' should work like the old OVR?
it's seriously overcomplicated!

Following up - I'm happy, it's working like I was hoping for.
Here's another effect of the new option, which I think is unclear from the description of the 'session record button.
All of this is in case you have the set playing, but want to toggle overdubbing on/off WHILE PLAYING (so no stop-starting the set)
***With 'Start Transport with Record' ON:
toggling 'session record button' ON triggers recording in all armed tracks
***'With 'Start Transport with Record' OFF:
toggling 'session record button' ON triggers recording in only the playing clips inside all armed tracks
That's exactly what I need, but not what I would expect from the option ' Start Transport from Recording'
