Weird 2013 Macbook Retina Latency Issue

Does anyone know if it's true that the latency is not an issue when headphones are plugged in? Can anyone who has a new Haswell late 2013 Macbook confirm this?

New one just arrived. All at buffer size 128 samples, Driver-Error Comp 0:

Laptop Speakers: 14.7 ms
Headphones: 9.75 ms
NI Audio Kontrol 1: 13.2 ms

I would have thought the NI interface would be a little better, but the NI driver isn't the greatest - I've had it crash at a gig,

Audio Box USB: 4.40 ms

This is absolutely fine for the recording and gigging that I do. Around 10 or below is fine for me. I don't think a rMBP is a poor choice right now. Any serious multi-track recording would be done with an external interface anyway.

Well, that's the thing, personally I don't do "serious multi-track recording", I use Ableton to write tracks, my recordings are just rough sketches, I use a USB mic to record directly into the box. I need good latency though, my stuff is very precise rhythmically.

Does a USB mic bypass the onboard sound anyway, so the poor latency of the new MBP won't be an issue? I'd be monitoring I guess with headphones, are there going to be issues there? Is an older refurb Retina MBP (say a June 2012) a better choice now than the new MBP for recording?

just got my rMBP hooked up with 9.1 on current mavericks.

at 128 samples
10.3 ms latency for internal audio
and 3.9 ms using MOTU ultralite

doesnt seem to be a big issue. now the non-retina graphics are PITA on the other hand..
