...what does "third-party plug-ins now have lower latency" mean?...aren't they effected by the global latency settings? i mean...when i select 256 samples buffersize what equals in x ms do third party instruments have another latency than that???....

Automation and Modulation are now fully latency compensated
this does not equal PDC

It's different for .x updates than .x.x updates. This being the former, it depends of what amount of introduced bugs new features may have. I'd say a a month or two, at least but the truth is we don't know. The 9.1.8 version wasn't released. Everyone
serving Ableton with high-quality data is helping somewhat in shortening the time it takes.

A Thank You to Ableton for a banging significant update! Really appreciated.

I think Apple is to blame for this. They make it hard for developers to support older OS X versions. Native Instrument dropped OS X 10.6 support more than two years ago. I'd say it's fantastic Ableton kept support for 10.5 and 10.6 for this long. That's now five and four OS generations ago.
No one is forcing users to upgrade to Live 9.2. At least not now. Ableton would have had to drop support at some point. Unfortunately ancient OS versions are ancient.
What I wonder is when Live 8 will come to an end.

Live already have PDC for third party plug-ins so I don't know what that's supposed to mean. I'm not sure why host synced modulation can't be compensated, but in theory at least it's quite easy to solve that with offsets.
I think it's time for testing out PDC functions. I did some weeks ago and I'm sad to say that even one modulation affected sound enough to make a nullify test fail. I think it's likely everyone using automation is affected by the lack of automation delay compensation in 9.1, whether they know it or not. Hopefully that will work out in most cases in 9.2.

Serato Just dropped SL support on the latest Serato DJ release too.

I'm trying to remember the timeline and major features of 9.1.
I mostly recall dual monitor, and the step sequencer for melodies in Push. Am I missing anything else huge?
Also, Live 9 came out about two years ago? I don't want to anticipate a pattern because that always leads to false expectations haha. But so far it seems a major release pops up at about an annual interval.

i'd forgotten about this one... so i tried it.
basically, in the past, VSTs would get a buffer equivalent to the current audio buffer size, even if it was a zero-latency effect. This was often so small to not be noticeable, but when you started stacking VSTs it would add up.
anyways, i have a test set that has a bunch of VSTs in, all zero latency VSTs (actually I just stacked a bunch of volume shapers). In live 9.1.7, the master shows tons of latency, audio is out of sync with the midi clock, etc.
in live 9.2b1, the master shows _zero_ latency, and the audio is in sync with the midi clock. (i used a buffer value of 2048 here in both cases, to make the issue worse when it appears).
this is also pretty big I think... in live 9.1.7 and previous, if you threw 5 effects on a track and then something like FilterShaper, LFOTool, or Camelspace, it would already be misaligned to the bar, and the amount would be based on your audio buffer, _even if all the effects were zero-latency effects_. in live 9.2b1, this case will pass; only long-latency plugins will still cause the issue.

That was until Live 8. Live 9 took about 4 years if I remember correctly. People started fearing Ableton was going belly up. Turned out they were just busy with Push.

Great news.
The continued updates and improvements are welcome.
I would also blame dropping the support of OS X 10.5 & 10.6 on Apple. It's time they stop it with the yearly OS instalments.

I'd think that's fair when you consider that they are still supporting XP, a 14 year old OS!

On OSX 64-bit 9.2b1, I don't have a Tuner under Audio devices...am I being retarded?
Edit: nevermind, it took 5 minutes for it to show up.
