I don't give a crap what my first step sequencer looks like, it does something that no other plug is doing on osx and it works extremely well when you use it with the bcr2000. just don't open the damn gui so you don't have to look at it.

whoa! I 'm not trying to bust balls.

i like my first step sequencer and even get a kick out of the interface. i really *do* want customizable farm animal shaped scene buttons in live 6. It's my number one request!

Shit, i'd even use the thing if i could change the gate time. Right now it makes every phrase legato, and seems to lose note offs every once in a while, i'm not so into that.

V1 was released in 2001, but I don't remember the time of year. V2 was just before Christmas 2002, V3 summer 2003, V4 summer 2004, V5 last summer, and now supposedly Live6 this summer/autumn. Hard working, them Germans.

Wow, I didn't realize that the time between v.2 and v.3 was so, so short. That is a half a year.

Incredible.

I wasn't around then. I got into live on v.3 about five months prior to the beta for v.4. Was there a lot of crying over the quick turn around and "All Ableton is trying to do is take our money from us. Wah, wah, wah." at that time?

I don't know how people would react to that now.

Bring on 6. Biatch.

Ableton to cease development on Live 6 until 2007
Software not ready yet 12-Jul-06

The developers at the German software company Ableton have decided to push the release of the first version of Live 6 until the first quarter of 2007. Interviewers report that the software will not be released because of Apple's switch to Intel processors in their new MacBook and MacBook Pro Line.

The Ableton spokesperson stated "Because Apple decided to switch over to Intel processors, our coding team has had to scrap months of work. Our software is written in such a manner that it is extremely dependent on having the right operating system coupled with the right processor. There are still a few things to learn about the new coding format, so we have decided that it would be best to push back version 6's release date."

Ableton plans to continue development of Live version 5 until the third quarter of 2006, and split the development team to begin work on Live version 6.

Live 6 is scheduled for release in January 2007. The full version rwill retail for $499, and the upgrade from version 5 will retail for $149.
Fuck. :(
Oh well, at least I'll have my MacBook Pro by then.

Hehe. Thats bullshit.
The intel switch is the whole reason why we didn't get altivec

Nice try though.

Wow, that`s a funny one. In fact most of our software is written in a way which makes it super easy to port Live to any platform. This is the reason why we were amongst the first ones having an OSX version ready. And actually the intel version was ready even before the intel mac books came out and we delayed the release of 5.2 a bit to make sure we can test on the new MacBooks. Seems that the guy who made up that article was jealous ;-)

And to be serious... I read that if you bought the 5.2 Macbook (Pro) update, that the cost of the update would be reduced from the upgrade price when going to Live 6... that'd be nice.

It is nice :D
Still holding out for the macbook pro though...
And the Live 6 performance test results....
I wonder if dual cpu support will double the power or just by small percentage.
