That seals the upgrade for me alone! plus multiple key and MIDI assignments, core processor support, and multi track rendering.

wasnt the Live Browser Key Command a sign of the apocolypse??

plus multiple key and MIDI assignments, core processor support, and multi track rendering.

none of which will be of any use when the gates of hell open up and demons rush forth to devour our souls.

Those features you mention were all big things for me as well.

But as always, the Abes throw in those few sprinkles of cool features i didn't know i wanted till i used them. such as...

Hot swapping samples in clips and instruments is so fast. The browser is infinitely more powerful and informative now. I almost thing that the show/hide Browser key command came in part from the fact that more people will be using the Browser now, rather than keeping it hidden all the time.
The updated mixer, with the ability to input precise volume fader values, and make the faders longer for better resolution on screen.
Waveshaper in Saturator. This is something a few of us saw back in Berlin on Robert's mad scientist station (aka his powerbook), and it seems to have come some ways since. Incredibly powerful.
EQ8 reminds me alot of the late Elemental Audio's Eqium plug-in.
Deep Freeze i know alot of us wanted since the day we were given Freeze.
Multi-track warping.... whoah.
Kontakt/Giga/EXS/etc. import for Sampler, while Sampler is not free it does save me my Kontakt intel mac upgrade fee. It wasn't ever very stable in a mac based DAW anyways.
Copy and paste warp markers ..... handy!

I would totally be upgrading without these additional features. The core features are worth it for me, but perhaps not other folks. The additional features not only make it a very 'bang-for-buck' upgrade for me personally, but i think it helps to give everyone at least 4 or 5 useful new features for their own uses of Live.

Everyone uses Live differently. NO two people use it the same. So you'll never please everyone fully. But i think everyone can look at L6 and find at least 3-5 features that will definitely make their use of Live easier and more enjoyable.

this has always been possible with the routing in Live.
create a new audio channel and route audio to it.
Yes it is possible, but is not possible to fold/unfold the tracks of a group..
you know this cubase feature.. in german it is called ordner.. (dont know the english translation .. perhaps directory?)

Adam,

Many thanks for answering all these questions, however I have another one for you...

Is it now possible to have the click remain on when loading? i.e. is click status saved?

sadly though, still no solo in place for group tracks

I REALLY whinged about that, but apparently they thought it would be straight forward so they scheduled it late in the game, then it turned out it wasnt going to be as straight forward so it didnt make the cut

I was really not pleased about it - so we can only hope it comes in a 6.x release i guess (i seem to have a vague memory that the other solo in placemay have crept in like that between releases)

Are there lots of other small changes? How about follow actions?

With Sampler, how is it for editing a sample? ease of use with loop points, 0xing, crossfading etc. Can it resample itself somehow?

btw, thanks for the screenshots and for answering questions. If you have had enough just say so...

cheers

Q: can you record automations in session clips now??
this one is realy needed for me, the only reason I could leave live4. I really hope it ll be possible, as it's a major feaure for impovisation.

I have no doubt: Saturator was one of the best things in version 5, amazing mix effect that is now totally indespensible ... i cant wait to see the new upgrade

EQ8 reminds me alot of the late Elemental Audio's Eqium plug-in.
awesome ... EQ4 although very useful ... always felt a tad too clean - cant wait to hear this, might just replace Voxengo Gliss EQ for me ...

Deep Freeze i know alot of us wanted since the day we were given Freeze.
yes, because i couldnt practically use Freeze without it - so I never did
Multi-track warping.... whoah.

this I am really interested in: Adam can you explain this a bit further?

.

this as well... i dont really know what they mean by this and how it functions.. ? and what its good for ...

as an aside, everyone please note that Adam is now functioning on NO sleep whatsoever ... and more than likely will not be getting any for the forseeable future!!

Screenshot #5

Quicktime movie import

video window can be positioned anywhere on the screen (and on a 2nd screen!) and is freely resizable. stays on top no matter where you are navigating in Live. The audio within the video is treated like an audio track. Warpable and can be automated/effected as usual.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but if you warp the audio track of the video, does it stay synced to picture?

its actually very simple.

select all the audio clips you want to warp together. (select the first, then hold down shift... select the last. or, if they arent consecutive.. do the apple or cmd+click on them to select various ones in your set)

then just edit the warp markers. it will show you editing the last clip selected, but the edits you make will be made on all clips you have selected.

for anyone thats ever recorded live drums with like 4 or 5 mics, and wanted to fix the timing without having to mix the tracks down first, and then warp the stereo master of that drum mix.... you know this is handy. also handy for electronic music if you use warp markers creatively, to add wierd swing and looseness to the groove. you can do it over several audio clips
