Yeah, Fras was a good dude. He's found moderate success in music, so it's possible he isn't a salesman anymore.
Here's Frasier's label;

rant: Guitar Center force feeding Reason!!
Totally depends on the product. Some have margin and some just don't. There are some items in those big retail stores that are tagged at cost just to move 'em out. The salesmen can't budge on them. But others have a street value - for instance newer releases - well above cost. Used gear's values are pretty amorphous since the store probably fleeced the guy they bought it from, so if you work any of that into a deal, who knows what you might pay/save. Guitars are especially fluid this way. Shrink wrapped doo-dads from the recording/pro-sound dept. are less likely to move more than a few percent.I've tried this. it didn't work for me. you guitar center former employees keep telling me of the deals I can make them give me but I'VE TRIED.
a friend of mine used to work there he gave me this price without me even asking. but ever since then I can't get them to drop any more than just tax
Then you get the new salesmen who haven't yet realized that they're playing with you all in an effort to turn their 6 cent commission check into an 8 cent commission check. (They'll learn - at the end of the month.)
All in, it's just not worth it - get the price from zZounds or another good online shop. That's within a couple dollars of the lowest price you'll get anywhere. Either order online (recommended) or demand that price outright when you walk into GC (not.) If you get "burned" skip a latte and you're even.

So true. This is also why these people are pushy... they're all broke!mbenigni wrote:Then you get the new salesmen who haven't yet realized that they're playing with you all in an effort to turn their 6 cent commission check into an 8 cent commission check. Don't know if any of you are familiar with Daddy's Music in Boston, but I get the same pushy crap from them as what I've heard abot GC. When I first wanted to get into electronic music I went there, basically clueless, and told them so. (Mistake #1) I also explained that I didn't want to buy anything, but just wanted to know what they would recommend. The salespeople REALLY wanted me to get a used Korg keyboard. When I asked about software the one woman laughed (literally) and told me no, I only needed the keyboard, for sequencing, composing, etc. I asked another guy to explain the keyboard to me, and he just banged on the keys, and told me it was 'really cool, dude.'
Needless to say, I did not take their advice and am happier because of it.
But every time I go in there, whether it be for cables or a guitar pick, I end up defending my purchase cause they want me to get some other crap I don't need.
