Dj-Grobe wrote:Why mac its better?, my 2 reasons:

1- you can run xp or osx on same machine, separate boot or at same time using parallels.

2- using osx, i have 0 crash, i really can say the APPLE OSX its really stable, anyway with good quality hardware, and correct configuration, XP its very stable. Anyway macs machiens are stable not for the hardware, mac machiens are stable due the OSX (the operative system apple use)

Funny thing is.... Every single time I have ever touched a Mac in my life, it has crashed. I'm not joking. I'm not exaggerating. It happens at the Apple store, EVERY TIME. It happens with my friends' G4 PowerBooks, and MacBook Pro. It happens on G5 desktops, too.

I have never touched a Mac that didn't crash on me.

In 20 years of using PCs.... I never once had a crash.... until I got an Allen & Heath Xone 3D a few months ago. Their drivers were shit, and I had my first PC crash ever. So I returned the mixer to A&H for a full refund, and I've been running perfectly ever since.

I'm not really trying to argue which platform is better. Just tossing my personal experience out there for you consideration.

Macs and PCs are the same damned thing. They are identical inside. They only differ in 2 ways:

1. Apple's look different cosmetically.

2. Apple's allow OSX to be run on them.

Besides that.... no difference.

Oh yeah..... one more difference. Since Apple decided to throw stores in malls all over the country, it means I would have to pay sales tax if I buy one. If I order a PC from just about anyone, I pay no tax.

I think you are confused.

Getting macs and pc's mixed up like that.

Macs dont crash.

In 20 years of using PC's i find it very hard to believe you never experienced a crash.

Did you forget to switch the PC on??

No. I am not confused. I swear it.

Just over Christmas I was at my friend's house, and he has a G4 PowerBook with OSX. He asked me to help him setup a wireless router.

I turned on the laptop, and clicked to open the AirPort settings to make sure his wireless card was enabled.

Laptop locks up.... right there. Nothing would work. I couldn't use the mouse, couldn't use the keyboard... I had to manually turn off the computer and reboot. That sort of thing happens all the time when I use Macs. I can't explain it.

A couple of weeks before that incident, another friend came over to my house and brought his iMac over. We were going to have a little house party that night, have some people over and play music with Ableton. He wanted to use his Mac, so I said fine.... bring it over.

He hooks it up, plugs everything in and turns it on. It crashed twice... something to do with the soundcard.

There must be some mystical force at work here, or something.... because my friend claims in all the years he has worked with Macs, he's never seen that problem before. And he is a certified ProTools instructor, and teaches at Full Sail. But if you turn on a Mac in my presence,.... it crashes. This is a universal rule.

With Windows, it never happens to me. Granted, I am definitely a Windows expert. I know how to keep my PCs running smooth. But still.... Everyone rants about how problem-free Macs are supposed to be.... but my experience is the exact opposite.

The arguments in this thread crack me up.
Almost anything you read is inconsistent with your own thoughts.
Naturally the urge pops up to chimme in.

The blue screen of death or the spinning beachball of doom?
Your choice

I have no energy for these battles anymore. Especially since I have them with Andreas all the time.
The Covops agree on a lot of things. But don't get us started on macs and pc's

yeah similar for me, I have actually had far more problems with macs

but the other day when I wasted a whole day because the software update updated to 10.4.8 and itunes to 7 and it fucked everything, I thought about why my experience with macs has been far more disappointing than with PCs

the reason I think is because "back in the day" I used to play games like doom on a 486 and so way back then I used to spend many hours pissing about with DOS figuring out how to make the soundcard work etc

so I think I'm just more used to PCs and fixing their hangups so to me Win XP feels like a dream - I NEVER have problems with it

I think you are onto something, Forge.

Maybe the reason Windows works so well for me is because I am an expert with it? I have spent so much time over the years learning about it, and all sorts of tricks and stuff.... that it's just second nature to me, and so keeping up a Windows system is just as easy as breathing.

But honestly..... until I got that Allen & Heath Xone 3D, I had never once seen a Blue Screen of Death. And I don't blame that Blue Screen on Microsoft, but on Allen & Heath for writing shitty drivers.

I have been using PC's for years - and finally i have a laptop that i can trust wether i run windows or mac OSX.

I bought a MacBook Pro with the full intention of running it in Windows XP mode - but then i have decided that i like the Mac OSX.

The MacBook Pro is the best built laptop on the market, sreves as a PC as well as a MAC so that argument is void,

I havnt finally got the taste of anything, just made my mind up.

The MacBook Pro is the best built laptop on the market, sreves as a PC as well as a MAC so that argument is void,

If you drop it, you won't think so anymore. I've seen it a thousand times. The metal cases split open and bend, and you can't fix them or bend them back.

I've seen plastic laptops get dropped pretty bad, but never split open like some of the Macs I've seen.

I will admit, the macbook pro certainly is a good-looking computer. Every time I see one, they really look nice. But I'll always remember another Mac owning friend who bought one, and dropped it in the first month. The case split open and the front left corner got bent. She couldn't close the case completely after that, and contacted Apple about fixing it. The amount they wanted to charge to get a new case was unbelievable. So she just had to live with it like that, where it wouldn't close. Pretty annoying.

When I got my last Dell laptop a few years ago, I stepped on it the first day I had it. Broke the screen. (I was at college, inthe dorm... I had the top bunk-bed, and I climbed onto my desk to get into the bed. ) I called Dell, and told them I stepped on it and needed to get it fixed. I told them I expected to pay for it. They sent FedEx to my place, picked up the laptop. Less than 24 hours later, FedEx was at the door.... with my computer. Fixed. New screen. No charge. I couldn't believe it.

I have never even had a Virus before.

I never had anti-virus software until last year. And I leave my desktop computer turned on, and online 24/7. Now I use free-ware, Avast anti-virus. But it's never caught anything.

Just the basic Windows firewall, too.

apart of the tons of hardware defects with macbooks documented on appledefects.com, is not true that with macbooks you have both...mac can only run a crippled windows, no tv-out support, and so many other things and functions are missing!m or broken. but hey , let em dream they can! they are mac.

I've noticed that the two most exciting advancements in the MacKingdom were that:
1) they now have an Intel processor that's been driving Windows since it's inception (and devotees grudgingly admitting that they at long last have real power at their disposal) -and-
2)that they can finally run Windows so that they can finally join the freeware revolution that PC users have enjoyed for years.
