According to this logic, they should never update anything because to do so is an admission that things weren't as good as they could be before. For all you know, it sounded as good as every other DAW out there, and now it sounds better. People have been making killer mixes on equipment less advanced than Ableton for a really long time. Don't blame your tools!

True, until recently here, I think Sonar and Traction were the only two apps doing 64 bit summing, now Live and Logic join in......

Oh yeah, that's another beef, so Live and Logic both get 64 bit summing, tighter MIDI, and better internal drum sequencing. Yet neither secede the other IMO in their strong points; Logic gets Mainstage, with no rewire or ability to act as an AU, so Logics plug ins can't be used in Live without Jack or Soundflower.....
Live gets a nice drum kit, but no UI improvements that take it to the level of Logic in speed....
Anyway, they are both great applications, just wish I was on the development team of a DAW I guess.

t
why did Sonar update to 64bit?

all those debates were about the 32 bit engine compared to others with the same

updating to 64 bit doesnt mean the ppl saying Live didnt sound as good as Logic etc etc were right because it's a different thing

That's $318 total, because Live doesn't do what Logic does, and Logic doesn't do what Live does.
I'm betting that Live becomes a full featured DAW and sequencing instrument before Logic or Mainstage get anywhere near Live's integration of real time song manipulation, but in the meantime I buy both updates, and continue to use both.....>
Machinesworking, I love reading your posts because you have exactly the same thoughts as I do on just about every Logic/Live issue I've seen come up. I keep thinking "Damnit, why can't one of them just have everything the other has by now so I can chose once and for all already. Logic, why can you do this! Ableton, why can't you do that!" The thing is they both have such cool features that we end up wanting those features so bad in the other one. So I keep using them both because I love 'em both. But I hear ya, it would be cool to be able to work with just one. I seriously think if Logic had a session view and the nice live features like the easy mapping, crossfades, racks etc., I would drop Live. But also, if Ableton had a little more cpu headroom, slightly better built-in effects/instrument suite and deeper DAW features, I'd probably drop Logic. Oh well, I love 'em both.

And yes, for now, I too will continue to update both Live and Logic...

If Tonedeaf knows what that means, (Spectator, Tenderloin) then he's got SF cred, if not then he's just visiting.
yeah, the spectator, found in the finest free magazine racks in the tourist parts of town, it's for the homeless and guys on business trips. crrrrrreeeepyyyy.

dude, I've paid more in parking tickets in this town than you've ever paid in SF rent. :P

$40 Reaper has been 64-bit since day one I believe.

As I said before though, those endless threads about audio quality in Live invariably blamed the quality and/or misuse of Ableton's warp modes for problems with audio. I don't ever recal anyone saying it must be because of the 32-bit suimming or dithering quality.

So in order to help with audio quality, why is there not a better timestretch this time around? Seriously this was the no.1 no-brainer which I just assumed they would do to answer all those complaints. Complex Mode uses zPlane's Elastique Efficient - they could (like $40 Reaper) have licensed Elastique Pro, which is FAR better sounding, to have a sixth more, "Production Mode" or whatever.

Oh well, hopefully in Live 8...

I never even had a drivers license in SF. BART is almsot faster, and the MUNI system is pretty good. The ultimate trump though, I was born behind Haight in the University hospital.
Lived in the Mission until about 6 yo.
When I moved back:
I lived in South of Market (6th and Natoma)
Tenderloin,
Filmore,
Haight,
near SF general behind the Mission
Sutter and presidio,

Basically all over SF. love the city, but i have this crazy idea that I might one day want to buy a house, ain't happening down there, not on a small contractors wage.
I like Seattle though, it's mellow.

I gotta respect that!! I've been here for 15, yay area for 25, but damnit I'm not native.

Seattle's super chill by all accounts, a good life up there. city living isn't for everyone, I'm glad to be here but know I'm sacrificing a lot of money and graces other places have to offer.

I've got the crack pipe warmed up and credit card ready for Live 7 and a few soft synths that I won't need to use in another other DAWs (daws, as in pause.)

Seattle is a city. Just half the size of the Bay Area, less of an epicenter for insane people though. SF has that covered.

yeah, there's weird shit going down in this town if you know where to look. it's definitely a town of tolerance.

please don't say 'epicenter', it's been a while since the last big shaker.

I always found it weird that the epicentre for the "love" generation was centered around somewhere called "haight"

FAIL. People have been asking for dual monitor support ever since the dawn of time. That guy who wears the hair net refuses to give it to us.

By god, I'm going to have to start using eJay.

so extend monitor to both desktops doesn't work for you? or is it that you want session and arrange view open at the same time? video on a separate monitor, extend desktop, drag video window to the 2nd display.
