I think we can only take 7 performers reasonably - that's one van (two up front, three second row, three third row). Also consider playing time - with a set from 9 to 2 am, we are talking 5 hours. Assuming that EVERYBODY plays EVERY gig, we're in for short sets. I have developed a spreadsheet to show who's playing where, but I need the data to populate it. Folks who are or are not playing particular gigs need to make themselves known for planning and promotion purposes. This is a critical requirement, and it's coming fast.

quandry/ryan here working on the promo flyer--any ideas on what we should call this tour?--please make suggestions and maybe we can all agree on some sort of universal tour moniker. my lame suggestions:
Ableton Live ALive summer tour 2004
Laptopalloza
Laptop Invasion Tour 2004
Lord of the Laptops: The Fellowship of Live
Ableton Live Lyrical Laptop Tour
again these are not so good, I'm hoping they suck hard enough to encourage something better. Anyone can submit ideas, not just tour people (though I guess we get the final say)

Ya know, screw it... I can do ALL the dates. Barring life threatening disasters, I'm in for all.
'breaks, get me the plot synopsis to nerf@rogers.com. If we're really screwed on mp3 space, I can donate some space on my FTP server and we can upload to there. let me know if that helps.
As one who has been grilled at the border constantly, how's the visa stuff going? Oddly enough, I just spent all day on the US immigration site.

Have fun
A van! Whee! How much gear are we travelling with? I have a 17" laptop, FW410 and a ReMOte25. Not huge, but multiply that by 7? We need clothes, and deodorant!
My photo and logo are at;

I'll find my bio in a couple of hours.

OK. My bio is up at
http://www.brucemurphy.com/mp3/SPL%20bio.doc
It's from an interview in Blender last year. I cut out all the stuff about me being a dentist and fronting a 15 piece horn band in Florida! Sounded pretty dorky for an electronica gig....

I missed all the private emails from Ryan, Brian and Montrealbreaks. Have I been fired already?
Could you guy resend to nerf@rogers.com?
On another topic, without scrambling through all the mp3s, what general style is everyone doing? Should we be looking at this as a traditional dance club gig with a continuous theme, or are we thinking more of a demo of what's possible with Live? I do both a tech house thing as well as a harder tech set.
OK, now lets get technical. Who's got what for audio interfaces? How are we going to flip this in 30 minute incremental sets with no breaks? Does anyone NEED more than one stereo in to the mixer? If everyone PFLs through their interface like I do, I envision slamming the crossfader to one side, and while one guy does his set, the guy on the other side of the mixer is either setting up or tearing down. Quick flip of the crossfader and Bob's yer Uncle.
A couple of suggestions:
1. Check that each club has easy access to the inputs on the mixer. Some places build IN the Mixer and the turntables, which can be a royal pain! You can tell if I've been in these clubs from the screwdriver marks all over the table....
2. Bring the world's largest power bar!!!!!
3. Somewhere, sometime, some pinhead won't let us move the friggin' 1200's! (Club owners=crackheads) If there's anyone going on this tour with an iota of carpentry skills, build us 2 "tables" about 16" X 19" with 5" legs at each corner. These plunk right over the turntables and clea the tone arm. They also get the laptop up to a nice height. (I'm only 5'5", and I still have to hunch over like Igor in Young Frankenstein in some clubs!)
I have these damn things, but they're in storage.
4. Everyone put colorful tape on their wall warts, cables, and other goodies. We don't want to be looking for a Toshiba power supply on a Sunday in Atlanta! (My tape is red so find your own color!)

Volunteers to perform for Live Tour
This is a repost, just so it's obvious to see:
Just a point:
I have received a couple of PMs & emails from folks expressing interest in joining the tour.
Right now, we have 7 performers, (possibly 8 ) and we will probably be able to fit more in on INDIVIDUAL gigs, but not necessarily for the whole tour.
Having said that, please, if you want to join the Live tour, send me or one of the other performers (Cosmosuave or Rahlo for instance) a PM or something expressing which town you would like to play in. I hate to be an exclusive prick, but we are reaching the point of having too many performers for each evening.
What I am asking is that people don't "self nominate" here. It throws planning right the fuck out the window and makes my life pretty difficult for arranging visas, transportation etc, and others lives for arranging accommodation, promo, etc.
Thanks, and sorry to be a dick on this one.

Bio/Trax
Okay I have uploaded my 2 trax and my bio to the FTP.... Images will be next once I get my friend to convert Illustrator filz to jpeg...
On another note ......
I am having trouble recording a mono signal into my FW410 using either Ableton or SoundForge....
The signal will only record to the left or right channel.... I have try'd panning and summing in the FW410 and still only get one channel... To fix I will record as a stereo file in SoundForge.... Then copy the recorded channel and to the blank channel of the stereo file... There must be an easier way... Am I not seeing something obvious?
This worked before on my 2496 Audiophile card....
Signal chain....
MG1--->mackie pre amps (one channel pan centre)--->RNC compressor--.
FW410 (channel 2)
Thanks...

Hey all.
Just an update: I have taken a look at the regulations for performers playing in Canada, and if it is for non-profit (ie you are not employed therefore you are not taking a job away from a Canadian) the cost minimal. Work permits can cost around $200 each for NORMAL workers, so for 5 US citizens - that's a grand... I don't know if two gigs would be two grand.
Anyways, more to follow on this. The situation is that we will have to work this so we are playing for free and any money taken in is handled by a Canadian. Then the Canadian pays all fees and so forth.
I haven't checked yet, but I imagine it's similar in the United States - an American will have to handle the money for all US gigs.
Hence, I propose we work it this way:
Each person handle all money for their respective cities. Simple, legal, and the most cost effective. The other performers are considered to be working for free technically in a non-professional setting. You are coming to town to Jam with some buddies, not perform at a show essentially. The fact that people will be watching us jam is icing on the cake.
