No, you can't record automation in session view.
Unless you do complicated workarounds.
For vsti's that have midi learn you can.

Yeah I knew it probably wasn't possible but since so many people seem to be using this in Live it made me wonder if there was some way if it just uses midi cc rather than VST automation. After all - why have those macro knobs if they can't be recorded?

Thanks djsynchro. One question though, I noticed that the buttons 7 & 8 have the Max value of 127 and Min value of 0. How did you save it that way? As far as I'm aware, there is a bug with automap or Nocturn that does not save the max min values of buttons when using Automap MIDI. If I change the max/min values on the buttons of my Nocturn using Automap MIDI client and save the automap settings, it doesn't get saved. The values always return to the default Max 1 and Min 0.

This is the email response I got a few days ago from Novation:
"We are aware of this problem. Our developers have fixed this for the next update which will be released in the very near future."

They never specified what exactly is the problem. Perhaps this is a Mac only problem? (I'm on OS X running Automap 3.)

Live tells you in the status bar. Nocturn, no.

Actually, I've just set up my PCR-30 for instant mapping, and it works OK. But I don't get any feedback from Live's status bar unless in Pickup mode, and that's only before it picks up. Seems a bit weird.

Man, didn't see this thread at first, then went to write a tutorial (including config-file for download).
Now i think i could have saved some time...

btw, did anyone of you encounter problems with saving the mappings inside of automapServer?
few days ago i made up some complex configurations with mutliple channels and custom cc-values and so on, went to the venue i wanted to play in and my last mappings were gone. i DID set them as defaults, and also saved it as an .automap-file, but couldn't get them back. so i had to sit down and refix it, which was pretty shitty...

did you save a map for each client?

i'm pretty sure you need to save each map separately, there is no way to backup the whole setup and restore it in one go...

oh yes, maybe i should try that. so for a 8 channel setup i need to save 8 files, you say?
will try that and report if it worked....
