There's one thing they could do: Not have track titles and device names in italics. Why? Because italics are angled so they waste space. Stylistically speaking, titles are often bold, or all caps, never italics. Italics are for emphasis

Robert Henke once expressed his hate for fake 3d photorealistic interfaces so I don't think we're going to get the fake wood ends. I think Live is beautiful!

i agree with the changing of the GUI but noting major. The only problem that i have is the colors and track view section if it is possible for track view / editor window to float in its own widow

YES. I like interface now, I like simplicity, minimalistic look, but I'm still for changes. At least for instruments - elegant looking, one style, giving INSPIRATION :!:  Live would have than more customers, I guess. And when update will be ready? OMG, I'm waiting so much!!!!! :D

The GUI is mostly fine. But one improvement would be more support for touch screens, tablets, etc.

And touchscreen or no, why not make the GUI more easily scaleable, as Max have done with version 5. Even just horizontal zoom in session view would be a good start. One shouldn't have to reduce their screen resolution to get larger clips.

Hello,

I'm a puremagnetik's user, and their work are fantastic ; they go far deep in the ableton live's features in their best, but, most of the time i'm scrolling to target what i want to move (opening and closing instruments, effects, macro, keys edit, chain selects etc…) I think there's a major problem going and going further from the first version of this magic sequencer : ergonomy.

Most of the time, i'm using the last horizontal 1/4 part of the screen : the instruments, midi, audio effects, macro controls and pattern edit… This is so much things in a tiny, tiny space, no ?? The only part that is resizable is the midi pattern, but i'm using on the same time, the instruments, that is logic… So why everything can be resizable and be seen and the same time ? We can imagine, without changing the appearance of the instruments, to double the 1/4 part of the screen in 2 horizontal quarter that following each other (in order to maintain the instuments chain). In that way, we can have 1/2 horizontal part of the screen. But we can have more : the second quarter of this same screen can be the midi pattern (that can be a button that we can activate). And the first quarter at the top of screen, is tracks or session view. In that way, we can pop-up what we want to see on the same time ! I can go further more : in tracks view, why we can resize the small view of what we record in session view, to become the session view in track's view !! It's not so mad… Really, it can help.

maybe i could sketch this, i'll do it if you want

Second feature i wish to have : MIDI tools !
this only pen is pain…
why not having a pop-up button that replace that pen to select, midi basic presets (drum'nbass, techno, jazz, rock, rnb, trance, funk…), eraser resizable, simple, double, or triple pen, others ?

Third feature : for my father
He's got a super 5.1 TV, with subwoofer etc. And he ask's me why my music is not 5.1…

Other features :
- presets for racks (built-in instruments, with macro controls, effects etc.)
- group tracks
- spectrum can be better and be used as an oscilloscope, to help my bad ears. I could visually monitoring the audio wave form. Especially, when it's about compressing, mastering, filtering… I'm actually using the excellent "s(M)exoscope" :
http://bram.smartelectronix.com/scope_docs/
- i have bought Operator's and Sampler, why they aren't free, especially when we use it only in Live ? Make it paid for the other's sequencers, you'll make money !
- Ok, that's all - for the moment -

So i will be the happiest Live user's if you do these features ; and i'm sure i won't be the only ! Sincerly.

That's it !

Here is what i would like to have (from my last reply) ; i like the actual design (apart this) but i like the last design version of Protools 8 and the Apple Logic ones too !
Decide !

something along the lines of the above screen mockup would be a step forward indeed.
This is 2008 Ableton, interfaces should be dockable/undockable, resizable, cunstomisable and multi-screen supporting. Preferable with hotkey-selectable workspace configurations.

I'm fine with the look of it though. Nice and simple. It just need to be more flexible.

It's out, Robert Henke told me that Live 8 will have a new more advanced GUI. Therefore Live 8 will hit the stores not before summer 2009..
