Personally, if Apple was going to do that type thing I wish they would do it with LG.

Meh, never going to happen. They would have to blow atleast 26 billion to get a majority share. Apple is cash hoarding because they can see they have a short life span in it's current form and is going to need it to change the companies direction. With the future going to SAAS and Google and Microsoft already firmly in the lead Apple is going to have some catching up to do. You are going to see Apple buying up smaller services based company left and right and try to integrate them.

Not to mention Jobs would have a lot of angry shareholders. He is already on thier shit list for not paying out dividens.

Wow. What the fuck alternative universe do you live in? Or did you just wake up from a nap you started in 2003 and are still rubbing the crusties out of your eyes?

The delusions of the new breed of Apple haters are astonishing.

The fact that you don't understand what I said is a positive thing makes your retort senseless. You buying into reports they are buying Sony marks your massive stupidity in the populous. They would have no benefit in spending a large amount of cash on a company that provides them so little for the future.

Apple is already looking at options of providing SAAS; the evidence is in the recent acquisitions they have made. They understand the computing landscape is going to change dramatically in the next ten years; the app stores are going to be a thing of the past. Subscription based services are going to be the future there is no denying that.

Microsoft already has a leg up in the business sector with recent releases of Azure, Office Web Apps, SharePoint Online, Exchange Web Apps and SQL Online.

Google is still trying to find its sector in the new world but seem to be making a big push on the Government sector.

Apple is very behind on providing these services, so they will make up ground by buying smaller companies that have already made inroads. I see Apple trying to tackle the consumer market, they are lucky they have the cash to make up for their lack knowledge in the arena. As hardware becomes less and less important to consumers it is going to be very difficult for apple to overcome that.

Apple in its current form is not going to make it in 5-10 years unless they stop thinking hardware and start thinking services.

Considering it has been around for forever it is hardly the future. Your belief that Apple TV is, is why no one buys into your rants and your very existence has become a breathing punch line.

I didn't buy into anything. I said it was a rumor.

And I don't know why you keep defending a company whose only innovative selling point has been "less buggy than the previous version" for the last 4 years while Apple continually plows over them with truly innovative technology that people actually pay attention to and pay for.

Never said Apple TV was the future. That's all you: clutching at straws and pulling nonsense out of your arse in order to prove an already misinformed point.

A fucking 6 year old with a Touch of the Down understands that the computing landscape is going to change dramatically in the next ten years.

I'm not sure who you think I'm defending, no where in my post was I defending anyone. You nut jobs just want to see what you want to see. If someone points out a short coming in apple you try to locate the closest pitch fork.

I'll give Google a tip of the hat but anybody who thinks Microsoft is on the bleeding edge of anything and is going to quickly overwhelm Apple unless they get off their keyster is delusional.

And I don't always give Apple a full pass. I've already said at length how I think AppleTV is less than ideal at this point. I've also complained about other smaller issues with Apple but I will admit it's usually never followed with "like [insert company here] does."

Sony has content and content is king, as they say.

The big bucks are in the consumer sector, not commercial, a fact many of us professional IT people are prone to forget

Microsoft is struggling to find a new niche as personal PC OS and Office products decline, but don't expect them to go under any time soon.

Its always hard to see the big picture when you are part of the picture; conversely its hard to understand what you are seeing if you don't know what you are looking at.

The problem with sitting on a cash pile is that interest rates are abysmal so if its not going to be used shareholders will rightly want it back as dividend. But at least they didn't invest it in real estate.

There were a couple potential problems mentioned in the RUMOR about Apple buying Sony. One would be existing partner agreements with Sony that would be rivals to what Apple has in mind. Right off the top of my head would be Google TV. Then there was the Japanese pride issue of not wanting to be bought out by an American company. Interestingly enough Sony had no comment on any of this. Usually if it's something completely made up a company would have something to say about the matter. Or maybe Sony's mouthpiece just needed a little more time to investigate before commenting.
