My friend has been producing music with nothing more than Logic Express for years, and despite me showing him the advantages of Logic Pro 9 and then Pro X (things he would actually use), he just can’t seem to pull the trigger. This past week Express took a dump on him and when he tried to reinstall it the system told him it was no longer supported. I was “Ha ha! Now you have to upgrade, fucker!”

If he decides the new version of Garageband is good enough I’ll be :x

Inexplicably upgrading to Mavericks made his Logic Express work again. :x

Time for a new tactic. I frequently give him shit for his music sounding samey. Yeah, I’m that kind of friend. But semi-in my defense he often doesn’t work on a song from start to finish for more than a day or two and often uses the same presets. How can your music not sound samey given those parameters? Now I’ll have to tell him Logic Express is only capable of writing samey songs. :P :x

Wassup, fuckers? :x

I have no clue why they got rid of that convenient feature.

Woz won’t be getting the iPad Air.

Why?

He wanted at least a 256G drive so he can fit all his TV shows on it.

FFS. :x

In upgrading to Mavericks my Logic Express friend lost all his music library that wasn’t bought from iTunes. He buys a lot of stuff from Beatport or rips stuff from youtube he can’t find for purchase.

Yet, I’m more mad about this then he is. Why am I more mad than he is? Because I told him many times to pony up the $25 a year for Match which would have completely solved this problem. It would all be backed up in the cloud. It couldn’t be much easier. You don’t even have to enter credit card information or any shit like that. It’s all tied to your iTunes ID. Just click the damn subscribe button and confirm. That’s it. FFS. :x

Why is he less mad than me? He was a long time PC user and losing shit is just par for the course.

Also he backs up his music old school. Burns it to CD. One track per CD. Fucking old school DJs. :x

How can upgrading your OS delete your music files? That doesn't even make sense.

I know, right? Maybe his drive is approaching toast level. Logic Express just stopped working randomly too under Lion, just did the error quit on launch. Now it seems to work again after the Mavericks upgrade. Apparently his iPod is no longer syncing now either. When he plugs it into the Mac it just charges and that’s it. A quick Google search didn’t bring up anybody else having these issues with the Mavericks upgrade.

The one safety net thing he did on my advice (after his drive failed) was get an external drive to run Time Machine on BUT that is only because his girlfriend bought him the drive for Christmas.

It’s annoying when Apple offers plenty of easy backup options and a person just can’t be bothered with any of it, even after experiencing multiple issues. :x

this form of extortion reminds me of the Post Office. "did you have insurance?"

i'm guessing that the music is all still there... it's just not showing up in iTunes because the .xml file that points to all the music got overwritten. in other words... iTunes card catalog of his library got broken.

the dig you make about Windows (in this case)... is completely unwarranted... Windows does not have the Apple iBitch method of keeping track of your music. It has two kinds of scenarios:

Scenario 1: All the files/file types that Windows Media Player can play
Scenario 2: All the file types that Windows Media Player can't play

the rest is up to your hard drive. if it doesn't fail your music remains. no rules, no "Authorize this" computer. just drag, drop, play, done.

the music library is so much easier in Windows... sorry beats but it just is... if you want to get into the cloud backup solutions and all that... well, okay... but think about what you're saying. you have to spend 25 dollars a year to ensure your OS doesn't fuck your music up.

iTunes only makes buying music easier... not organizing it.

:D i fuckin hate the post office... those bastards take your money and your package and then when they destroy it or make it disappear without a trace they have the audacity to ask you "do you purchase the insurance?"

who are you insuring it from??

*non-music drum roll*.... The Post Office.

the fucking package never leaves their possession. :x

what is the postage for?

gas? :x ffs!

I never thought about it that way. It is a racket isn't it.

Let me get this straight, you want me to pay you extra money in case you happen to not do the job you're already getting paid to do?
