I just tried to find how much the old VintageKeys cost us. I think it was about £800

I saw this SoS write up of the cheaper ClassicKeys which cost £647 then, depreciation means this is equivalent to about £949 today ... that would be $1,527 USD for the cheap version! Or equivalent to $1,887 for the full VinageKeys

It was tough in the old days I tells ya!

I remember back in the early 90’s hanging out in music stores the way some people hang out in coffee shops now. Not buying things often and mostly just talking shop with the employees.

Now it’s all about sitting at home deciding which $200 synth plug-in best covers the entire keyboard department for you or if you’re feeling sausey buying the entire store in the form of Komplete for $500.

In my experience talking shop with music store employees is akin to discussing particle physics with your cat.

Back in the early 90’s there weren’t a lot of other options. There was also low expectations.

On the topic of Apple, ever gone to an Apple store and mention Logic or that you work on music to an employee? You have to step aside to avoid getting hit by the super boner that springs out of their pants.

PBS app (with over 5,000 hours of content) now on Apple TV. Also some yahoo video streaming app.

Now it’s rumored Apple will be releasing a 12.7” tablet next year. As much as I love Apple I think that is going to be for an extremely niche group of buyers and borders on the annoying for those of us already struggling with deciding between a standard iPad and iPad mini.

I think cost will be even more of an issue with those on the fence. Sure it would be great for graphic artists and music apps, but do you think it would be worth the price? I assume the base model wifi only with a 16G drive would start at, at least $600.

I guess I'm curious, but I wonder about the display on something that big. If they use the current iPad resolution, it might not be retina anymore. If they go with a different size, then we're back to waiting for devs to make compatible graphics and support yet one more screen resolution.

When Apple changed the name of the current iPad to Air I think a lot of people assumed a Pro was on the way, including me. I thought about waiting to see what they release as a pro iPad, but even if it does come out in early 2014, it'll likely be months before all the apps I use now are supported if they change the resolution. Figured I'd get the Air now and wait to see how this all plays out.

I think it will be kind of insulting if Apple does what they did with the mini, a lower res screen on the original and then retina with the next year's refresh. Like I said, you’re probably going to be forking out a lot of money. It’ll be BS if Apple pulls that move. But I also think there will be less demand so they shouldn’t be using manufacturing quantity issues as an excuse. “Air” and “retina” should be standard issue at this point. I’m sure in a couple years the MacBook Airs and Pros will merge into a single lineup too.

Yeah, if you could get MBP spec in an Air body, that would be sweet. 15" though

The main problem with Apple (and yes there is only one, STFU) is as soon as they figure out how to toss all the latest and greatest tech into a box for an affordable price (by Apple standards) they’ll just come up with some other new piece of tech that they’ll slowly trickle into their existing product line.

In PC terms this is the equivalent of blowing people’s minds with updating the USB port count from 3 to 7! Must have!

Why?

My last 4 Apple laptops have been 17" models. I hate them for getting rid of that size.

I don't want to do serious work on a glorified iPad with a keyboard, which is what the Air seems like to me.
