So to continue to try to suss out the LPX step sequencer issue does anybody know if this is something I can do with the Lemur app on the iPad?

Great when you have all your drum hits on their own tracks (and don’t want to group track for whatever reason). But I wish there was a way that it distinctly showed you which notes are from which track, unless I’m missing something. That would be ideal when you select multiple melody tracks and want to make adjustments visually comparing them to each other. Like instead of colors representing note velocity, colors would represent a different track. Track 1 all green notes, track 2 all red, etc. Can it do something like that?

:x
Yep, when you select the regions look at the "View" menu to the left of the piano roll display. Under "Set Note Color" select "By Region Color."

I mean you can’t send MIDI from a plug-in to a plug-in on another track within Logic, but the Lemur is a controller. Not sure exactly how it works but I’m thinking the step sequencing happens internally on the Lemur app and with a step sequencer Lemur template when you hit play in Logic it just starts looping the pattern across and by tap adding and subtracting notes in the step sequencer Logic would just translate it like you were hitting keys on a keyboard. Once you have the Lemur pattern the way you like it you would record enable the Logic track to record the pattern in Logic.

Looks like Heavyocity’s next beatcentric library coming out next month is going to have a built-in step sequencer. Thank fucking you! :)

Now they just need to add that to an update for Damage. :x

New Apple TV Reportedly Acts as a Games Console

Ironically (on multiple levels) I'm more excited about the prospect of getting a PS Vita than this rumored news, which has already been long rumored.

At least in the beginning it's going to be a bunch of cheap knockoff AAA console games and I can't really think of any casual iOS games I'd rather play on my TV. Just looking at the physical bulk of the current consoles there's no way they can fit all that computing power into the Apple TV hockey puck. No way.

What Apple needs to do is a long overdue overhaul of the stale Apple TV interface while continuing to add more TV networks into an interface that makes more sense than an iPhone graphical interface controlled with iPod Classic mechanics. FFS. :x

And yet I'll buy the new Apple TV when it drops. :x

^ huh... cool... and yeah stringtapper called it.

my guess is it will start off with the likes of Angry Birds and games of that nature... you can already do that on roku and play with the remote by using it as an on screen pointer (like a finger tip).

the article says that they wonder how they will make the older models do this... er um... firmware motherfucker?

the question in my mind is storage. how much does the Apple TV have... if it's only a bit of flash RAM then the games would have to be streamed or accessed online in some way. then again, maybe the controller will store the games and the TV just works like a display

i don't see reverse compatibility concerns as one of Apple's strong suits... so i suspect that you'd have to buy the new unit to get the coolest stuff... if not all of it.

edit: and here you have it http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/a ... rades.html

The first Apple TV had a 250G drive in it and then Apple claimed people didn't like it syncing to iTunes and slowly installing content. So they removed it. Fuck you "people" and fuck you Apple. Now there's a tiny drive that basically just stores its interface components.

The brilliance of the model with the HD was you didn't have to have iTunes open on your computer or your computer even on if the media was stored on the internal drive and even more useful you could just toss it in a bag to hook up to any TV anywhere to watch or listen to your stored content without needing a wifi connection or direct access to your computer iTunes library. Friends house, hotel, some place in bumfuck that doesn't have wifi - just hook the fucker up to the TV and done.

It seems to me that there may start to be a blur in the difference between an AppleTV and a Mac Mini connected to your TV. I mean if you can play Mac games on a Mini with an Xbox or PS controller then why bother with the AppleTV route? The games will always be more powerful on the Mac.

I guess one issue is that while the number of high profile games being made for Mac has increased it hasn't been to the level that games on the iOS App Store have exploded.

This also reminds me of the signs of OS X and iOS beginning to converge that have been happening since Lion.

Case in point on this. I took my first gen Apple TV and loaded with a ton of music, movies, and TV shows that would appeal to a wide range of ages and tastes and took it to our cabin that is in bumfuck and there's no internet. Now anybody who goes there can just turn on the TV and access all of it. There's no cable there either so previous to this the TV was all about DVDs and VHS tapes.

Closest thing I could do with the current Apple TV is get a wifi router which still wouldn't connect to the internet but would allow people to AirPlay from their idevice, assuming they even have one and it has content stored on it for them to stream. :x
