With my new car I’ve seen the possibilities and the current shit state it’s in (still better than controlling everything on your idevice). But the aftermarket options are rumored to cost as much as an iPad, I don’t see it as something you can easily and elegantly just slap in any car, and they are probably going to be a big thief magnet.

Apple needs to institute a wait period for app reviews, at least several days after a purchase is made. I’m tired of reading 5 star reviews that say “Just downloaded. Can’t wait to use it!” :x

Where to begin?

The amount of thievery with touchscreen devices in automobiles these days is next to nil. All the units now have multiple security systems in place; including entering your own password - which needs to be re-entered as soon as the device is disconnected from the car's battery system. Even the most retarded thieves all know this, and realize it's fucking a massive waste of time to get the thing out; only to find that it's unusable/unsellable. All the usual fence places won't take 'em anyway for the same reason. Apple no doubt has this kind of security as well.

I don't know what aftermarket stuff you're talking about exactly, but anything that comes with the auto itself is, at minimum, $2000. For SHIT functionality and CRAP gps. The aftermarket stuff is even worse, really.. All the interfaces on every single fucking device I've ever seen looks like bit graphics from the early 90s.

So...you know....what I'm saying is this:

Stock and aftermarket functionality, GPS, and graphics are all epic pieces of shit.

This means that Apple is well and truly poised to DOMINATE the auto tech market.

God Bless Them and God Bless Steve Jobs.

The touch screen on my car is nothing more than a stereo. Oh, and it monitors my fuel efficiency. GPS? Extra cost. Rear view camera? Extra charge. Tire air pressure monitoring? Extra… :x

As you mentioned the current offerings are shit and not very desirable. Apple will change that. I just didn’t think about security passwords and whatnot. That would be a deterrent. But every new car that has been sold in the past 5 years or more has come with a built-in alarm. It’s not like thieves stopped stealing cars as a result.

As far as aftermarket as soon as Apple announced CarPlay in new cars manufacturers of car stereos were grilled if they are going to manufacture aftermarket CarPlay stereos. First responses were no, then they changed their tune shortly after. Shortly after that the high price speculation began. Nothing solid of course, but third parties know Apple people will throw large sums of money at anything Apple. Why not join in Apple’s high margins money train? :x

here's an idea for some new auto-tech:

an alarm people actually pay any fucking attention to

think about it... this alarm could actually do something besides make people keep walking. it might even NOT cause them to grumble mildly about it if they are indoors.

pure. genius.

How about intelligent alarms where one car can detect what the other car is going on about and then they can get into a heated yelling match. :x

That would work for about 2 days until everybody figures it out and then starts setting off car alarms just for the entertainment. Alarm by Oh Snap! Systems. :x

Now Apple is going to deploy robots to help the assembly of their products in China. That’s going to lead to an unemployment problem in China. Apple just doesn’t fucking get it.

What they need to do is pay assembly workers $35 an hour, hire twice as many workers as is needed, make anything over 20 hours a week overtime at double pay, sell all their hardware at a loss, hand all their hardware designs and software over to Google as its developed at no charge or licensing fee, and immediately stop demanding standards of third party developers. It should take no more than 3 minutes from an app being submitted to Apple to the time its available for sale on the App Store. They should also give the developer 115% of app sales.

That’s just a good will start right there on the path to not being a bunch of pretentious fucking assholes.

There would truly be nothing finer than Apple replacing all those fucking ungrateful Chinese workers with Robots.

NOTHING.
